ZYF, Nungba decries Govt. negligence in Tamenglong:

Decrying the alleged negligence of the State Government towards development of Tamenglong district, Zeliangrong Youth Front (ZYF), Nungba Zone has urged the Government to do the needful at the earliest possible.

In a memorandum submitted to Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, the youth front said that the people in this part of the State are felling a sense of negligence and discrimination as a result of the State Government's arrangement of posting in-charge officers when the district is in need of regular and competent authorities to speed up the developmental activities of the backward district.

At present there is an in-charge Deputy Commissioner, an incharge Superintendent of Police and an in-charge Sub-Divisional Officers both at Tamei and Tousem to run the district administration, the memorandum pointed out.

The memorandum further said that the protest against such negligence attitude and indiscriminate treatment of the Government could not be ruled out in the event of the failure of taking up necessary action to redress the grievances of the people.

NIOS commits to fair conduct of exam:

Regional Director of National Institute of Open School Dr Rajesh Kumar has asserted that the State Government of Manipur and the National Institute of Open School (NIOS) have been trying hard to take all possible measures to curb malpractices reported during the conduct of examinations.

In a statement, the Regional Director said that NIOS is an autonomous MHRD Government of India institution which provides school education through distance mode of education throughout India with special focus on disadvantaged section of the society, rural youth, urban poor and women.

It has a number of flexibilities to help in continuing their education such as age bar for admission, low fee, choice of subjects, freedom to pace study and take examination.

It provides quality education at the doorstep of the learners.

It provides basic education and secondary and senior secondary courses together with about 100 vocational education programmes.

In Manipur NIOS gas 45 study centres and every year more than 8559 students take admission in difference courses.

NIOS has set up 24 examination centres this year for more than 9757 students.

Recently, NIOS received a report of examination paper leakage from Manipur and swiftly acted upon it by sending a very high level team from headquarters at Noida and from its regional centre at Guwahati on April 19.The team established that the Thoubal and Churachandpur Branches of United Bank of India joined hands with two schools of Thoubal namely, Maipak High School and MA Wahab Islamic Public School and one school of Churachandpur (Royal Academy) together with some unknown persons to sell question papers, extort money from poor students and their parents, and damage the image of NIOS.

Accordingly, NIOS instantly cancelled the erring examination centres and rescheduled 6 question papers and an FIR was lodged at Thoubal Police Station.

The rescheduled dates of the examinations are Secondary Course English (Code 202): May 15, 2008; Senior Secondary Course Political Science (Code 317): May 16, 1008; Senior Secondary Course Accountancy (Code 320): May 17, 2008; Senior Secondary Course Sociology (Code 321): May 19, 2008; Senior Secondary Course Word Processing (Code 327): May 21, 2008 and Senior Secondary Course Psychology (Code 327): May 22, 2008 .

KLO/KLA vows revenge:

Army commander in chief of the armed outfit KLO/KLA Timothy Kuki has categorically stated the outfit would take up stern action, irrespective of time and place, against the six renegades who were involved in the cold blooded killing of its town commander Seilinthang alias Eagle at Khuga Dam area on the night of April 19.

Talking to mediapersons at a place in Sadar Hills area today, Timothy strongly condemned the killing and informed that Seilinthang alias Eagle had been sent on a goodwill mission to hold talks with all those party cadres who have been misled and bring them back to the party fold.

Identifying the accused killers of Seilinthang as Seikhohao alias Marvin of Thangkangphai in Churachandpur district, Ngamlet alias Jamdil of Changpikot, Yangkhohao alias Arjun of Lhangjol village, Robert Kuki of Phailen village, Steward Kuki of Sapermeina and Paokholun Haokip of Games Village Zone-IV, the army commander in chief said since the killing was in cold blood, the party has decided to strike out anytime and anywhere they are found.

KSO threatens agitation on Guite's killing:

The Kuki Students' Organization (KSO) Saikul unit has threatened to launch an intense agitation if the Government fails to establish the facts and motive behind the gunning down of two cousins by unknown men on Friday.

Paominthang Guite, 22 and his cousin brother Thangkhalal Guite, 24, of Laikot village in Churachandpur district were gunned down by unidentified men near Keibi Kumada Mamang Thandabi canal in greater Imphal east on Friday night.

The families said the two were innocents and that they had nothing to do with any criminal activities.

Menwhile, the corpses of Paominthang Guite and Thangkhalal Guite shot dead by unidentified persons near Keibi Kumuda Mamang Thandabi canal under Lamlai police station in the night of April 18 have been handed over to family members after post mortem at RIMS today.

Man cuts off neighbouring woman`s arm in quarrel:

The right hand of a housewive was cut off at the arm by a man using a dao in a bizarre incident that occurred at Haiyel Loubung village under Thoubal district today at around 6.30 am, a report said.

Reports said the incident occurred when their was a confrontation among the elderly people following a quarrel among the children today.

The 52-year old man named Abu Barkar cut off the right hand of the woman named Mainu Begum, 52, wife of Jal Mohamad from his neighbourhood as the victim `talked too much` in the aftermath of a quarrel among their children while playing, said the report.

Abu took out a dao from his house as the woman continued talking after the quarreling children had subsided and cut off her hand, the report added.

The woman was evacuated to Shija hospital, Langol for medical treatment.

330th batch passes out from BSF centre at CCpur:

The militancy problem in Manipur cannot be solved with military means, said PK Mishra, inspector general of BSF, Manipur, Mizoram and Cachar Frontier on Monday while speaking at the attestation parade of 166 newly recruited personnel of the force at Subsidiary Training Centre, Churachandpur.

"Militants in both hills and valley are our brothers. Assaulting them after nabbing or killing them by shooting and depositing weapons after killing is not wanted at any cost.

Such acts cannot bring a solution to the militancy problem in the state or help in solving the problem. The problem can be solved only through face to face dialogue, Mishra observed.

There is a need for bringing them back to normal life at this juncture, he said.

The BSF has been extending help to the general people and will continue to do so, he went on to say announcing that any civilian can come to the Churachandpur Subsidiary Training Centre and get a blood test for HIV/AIDS free of cost.

Talking on the activities of the centre at Churachanpur, he said that many policemen from the state as well as from outside the state have been given training at the centre.

The attestation parade was held foir the 330th batch of BSF personnel to which the centre had imparted training, he said.

The personnel at the parade today also obtained training for using arms, drill, border security and surveillance, tactics, field-craft, map reading, border management, field engineering, counter insurgency operation and human rights etc., he said.

The attestation ceremony at which cultural dances were performed was also attended by other high ranking officials of the BSF, CRPF and Assam Rifles.
