Imphal-Mao Economic Blockade

40 Oil trucks damaged in stoning : Imphal, May 22: Windshields of more than 40 goods trucks including oil tankers were broken in stoning by economic blockade supporters along the Imphal-Mao section of the NH-39 even as most of the oil pumps closed down today due to non-availability of stocks at the oil depots. A truck transporting sand from Dimapur was also set ablaze by blockade supporters last night at around 8.30 pm at Tadubi. The indefinite economic blockade along the NH-39 imposed by the Naga People`s Organisation, NPO, Senapati district commenced yesterday in protest against the state government`s failure to take up positive action in matters of PDS items and water supply even after its 24-hour district-wide bandh on May 20. Reports said that truckers leaving Mao gate late yesterday afternoon with security escorts were caught in heavy stoning from the blockade supporters on their way from Tadubi to Senapati. ATWO calls bandh on killing of two Anal women: Imphal, April 26: In denunciation of the alleged failure of the State Government to track down murderers of two Anal women in a thoubal district area last month, the All Tribal Women's Organisation (ATWO) sponsored indefinite National Highway 39 bandh has come into force from today. Bullet riddled bodies of LH Esther Anal (30) and PS Snowy Anal (27), both from Chakpikarong sub-division of Chandel district were found on March 22 with strong suspicion that modesty of the ladies were outraged by the perpetrators. The ATWO and other social bodies had earlier prevailed upon the State Government to crack the case with even the Chief Minister reportedly setting a time frame to pull up the guilty persons and punish them accordingly for the ghastly crime. As neither the Government could arrest the culprits nor honour demand for payment of adequate compensation to family members of the slain women, the ATWO, as was already pronounced, went ahead...

Bandh in Senapati

Vehicles stranded at Mao: Imphal, Apr 25: More than 100 vehicles including 21 inter-state passenger buses were stranded at Mao gate owing to the 24-hour Senapati district-wide “Black Day” bandh called by the Youth Front of Senapati. The bandh along the Imphal-Mao section of the national highway that commenced late Thursday night, was called to pressurize the Manipur government for revocation of the cancelled census report 2001 in respect of three sub-divisions in Senapati district. A report from Mao gate said as many as 124 vehicles including 21 inter-state tourist buses and 103 goods ferrying trucks were stranded at the gate. Business and other establishments including schools and government offices were also closed for the day and the Senapati district headquarters wore a deserted look. However, there was no report of any untoward incident at the time of filing this report. Called on killing of two women: Imphal, Apr 24: Decrying the alleged failure of the State Government to produce the killers of two women namely Snowy Anal and Esther Anal of Chandel district, the All Tribal Women's Organisation, Pallel has announced its decision of calling an indefinite bandh along the National Highway 39 with effect from 6 am tomorrow. In a statement, the women's body made it clear that it had already served an ultimatum to the Chief Minister giving 48 hours time to identify and arrest the killers. Reminders have also been send the Chief Minister on March 23 and April 8. However, there has been no response from the side of the Government. Tiddim road bandh

Normal life affected: Imphal, Apr 21: Following the 48 hours road bandh on the Imphal-Tiddim line by the JAC Against the Killing of Sandham Raju by 3 Assam Rifles personnel at Salem Veng at Churachandpur district on January 21 this year, commercial activities were hampered along the said route. The bandh came into effect from 5 am today and was imposed by by residents of Moirang in Bishnupur district to protest against Government's alleged failure to conduct an inquiry into the alleged extra-judicial killing of Sandham Raju. These incensed members of the JAC as well as the local people , said they will now no longer ask the Government to fulfil their demand but take up different forms of stern agitation. Heeding the call of the bandh Moirang market was wore a deserted look with the business class preferring to close shop.
