2nd Manipur State League

NEROCA win, NISA bite dust: Imphal, Jan 7: YWC Thambalkhong edged past NISA Thangmeiband by a solitary goal at Sekmai while NEROCA beat KFC Kakching 3-0 at Kakching. In other matches of the Manipur State League played on Sunday, ESU Wangkhei were held by PYC Phoudel at Phoudel 1-1 while MPSC drew with USA Khurai by a similar scoreline. At Rengkai, visitors SSU Singjamei whipped RACC 2-0. N Jimmy struck twice for SSU in the 67th and 80th minutes.

National Road Cycling Championship: H Renubala and K Suchitra respectively pedalled to one silver and a bronze each on the third day of the 13th National Road Cycling Championship at Erode district of Tamil Nadu on Saturday. Renubala's silver medal came in the 50 km road mass start event in the Under-19 girls’ category while the bronze won by Suchitra was in the senior girls' 75 km road mass start. Manipur has, so far, garnered two gold, four silver and two bronze medals. National Tent Pegging Meet: ITBP riders raced ahead of ASC Centre (North) on the medal count as Hc Shashidharan picked his second gold on the third day of the National Tent Pegging Championship at Imphal Polo Ground on Saturday. Ambush in Thoubal

Two cops hurt: Imphal, Dec 20: One Police Commando and one IRB personnel sustained injuries following heavy exchange of firing between underground activists and Thoubal Police Commandos at Salungpham under Thoubal Police Station at around 12.10 pm on Thursday. According to information culled from the site of the incident, at around 7 am on Thursday, Thoubal Police intercepted report of factional clashes involving PREPAK cadres including one ‘Sidaba’ who is the Thoubal District Commander of the outfit at Ukhongshang. Consequently, four teams of Police Commandos led by OC Kishore- chand rushed to the area. However, as they could not find anything amiss there inspite of searching the area thoroughly, the Commando teams turned back. As they approached Salungpham market, the Commando teams saw the villagers here and there in panic. NE Cup Veteran Football

KVFA, FLAM register wins: Imphal, Dec 18: Maniratan’s 16th minute goal helped KVFA, Khurai, register a facile 1-0 win over VSAC, Churachandpur, while FLAM, Yaiskul, overwhelmed Chingtam, Chingmeirong , 4-2 in league matches of the 2nd North East Cup veteran football tournament at THAU Sports Complex on Tuesday. The FLAM goals were netted by N Bobo (3rd), E Ratan (39th) and G Gaitharung (60th, 78th) while S Bungomacha (37th) and Athui Rongmei (73rd) bridged the score deficit for the Chingmeirong veterans. On December 20, SUVFA, Singjamei, will play CBVT, Chingoi Baruni, at 12 noon while ATVFA and VSAI, Thangmeiband, face each other at 2 pm.

Manipur Police, TRAU, NEROCA win: Imphal, Dec 16: The 2nd Manipur State League football competition resumed on Sunday after a brief break owing to the recently concluded 51st CC Meet football tournament. Playing at THAU ground which serves as the home ground for TRAU, Tiddim Road, the hosts overcame ESU, Wangkhei, by a solitary goal scored in the 29th minute by Y San-tosh off a flag kick taken by K Inaoton. At Luwangsangbam ground, hosts NEROCA, Shangakpham, blanked SSU, Singjamei 2-0 with L Nabachandra finding the rivals’ net five minutes into the game before S Thomas sealed the match with an 86th minute strike. USA, Khurai, hosted Thambalkhong side YWC at Khundrakpam ground and managed to pull off a 1-1 draw with Th Inaotomba converting a penalty in injury time after Kh Bopinchandra had opened the visitors’ score in the 75th minute. FLAM defeat Khurai in NE Cup opener: Imphal, Dec. 14: Football Lover’s Association Manipur (FLAM), Yaiskul, launched their title defence on a winning note defeating Khurai Veteran Football Association (KVFA) 2-0 in the opening match of the 2nd North East Cup 2007 veteran football tournament at Thangmeiband Athletic Union Sports Complex ground here on Friday. N Bobo scored the opener for FLAM, firing in a cross from E Ratan 16 minutes into the match and Gaidimlung Kamson doubled the advantage in the 50th minute. Tourney begins on Friday: Imphal, Dec 13: The North East Cup Veteran Soccer Tournament 2007 will kick-off on Friday at THAU Sports Complex with holders FLAM pitted against KVFA, Khurai for the opener at 2 pm.
