PM to Visit Manipur Next Month?

To commission Kula Multipurpose Project: Imphal, Apr 20: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh may visit the state around May-end or June to commission the Kula multipurpose project, the foundation stone of which he laid as the deputy chairman of the Planning Commission nearly 24 years ago. "Okram Ibobi Singh, who is in Delhi to attend the chief ministers’ conference, met Singh yesterday and invited him to commission the project. The Prime Minister said he would be happy to commission it," a source in Delhi said on Sunday. Being constructed at Mata village across the Khuga, about 10km from Churachandpur district headquarters, the project was conceived in the seventies. Once functional, the project will irrigate 15,000 hectares of agriculture land, provide five million gallons of drinking water daily and generate 1.5MW of power. Bungling in Khuga Project Contract

Cabinet to probe faulty contract process: Imphal, Dec 29: Along with revising the cost of Khuga Multipurpose Project which has been under construction since Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh was the Deputy Chairman of Union Planning Commission about 20 years back, the State Cabinet has decided to initiate an enquiry into awarding contract works worth Rs 29 crore which were out of the purview of the project and fix responsibility under Manipur Public Servant Personnel Liability Act. The Cabinet meeting held this evening with Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh in the chair decided to take up action against the engineers involved in awarding the contract works by invoking the provisions of the Act after an enquiry. Out of the contract works of Rs 29 crore which were awarded out of the purview of the project during 2005-06, Rs 11 crore had already been withdrawn while the work orders for over Rs 6 crore had been frozen by the Government after it got wind of the matter. Planning Commission projection

5.9 pc growth rate expected: Imphal, Dec 6: The Planning Commission of India is expecting 5.9 PC growth rate during the 11th Five Year Plan period. However, out of the 50 Departments from which plan proposals were invited to fix the state's plan size for 2008-09, only 17 submitted plan proposals so far. Against the overall growth rate of 5.9 percent during the 11th Five Year Plan period, the Planning Commission is expecting growth rate of 1.2 percent in primary sector, 8 percent in secondary sector and 7 percent in service sector. Meanwhile, a reliable source informed that following intimation from the Planning Commission to submit a list of 21 projects which should be taken up on priority basis, the State Government has submitted a list which prioritised road communication, power, Loktak development and improvisation of education in hill districts.
