Saratchandra Football: NEROCA Sangakpham and the MPSC have completed the semi finals line-up of the 4th L Saratchandra Memorial Invitation Football Tournament being played at Kongkhampat ground, Nambol. In the last match of group B, MBSU Wahengbam Leikai pipped TRAU Kwakeithel 5-3 . The second match between MPSC and NEROCA ended in 1-1 draw. Th Rohen of MPSC equalised NEROCA's first half goal by H Amarjit to earn the police side a crucial point. At the end of the match, NEROCA emerged winners of group C on better goal difference while the MPSC managed to get through to the semi-finals round by virtue of being the second best team of all the groups. MPSC will take on TRUGPU Nambol in the first semi-final on April 23 while NEROCA face off YWC Thambalkhong in the second semi-final on the same day. JAC objects extension of Imphal Airport: A joint meeting of the JAC Against Acquisition of Land for Expansion and Extension of Imphal Airport with representatives of various civil organisations has resolved to urge upon the Government to develop Imphal airport within the existing area of 600 acres, informed a press release issued by the JAC. The joint meeting held on Saturday at Manipur Press Club, Imphal, was attended by representatives of CCDD, AMUCO, UCM, HERICOUN, UMO etc. The meeting agreed that the Government plan to acquire additional 512 acres of land cannot be justified. In case the Government decides to go ahead with the land acquisition move, the JAC and the civil organisations will stand firm to foil the move. If the Government fails to pay heed to democratic forms of protest, the JAC together with the civil organisations will take recourse to violent modes of agitation, it warned. Fund misuse cloud on Power Deptt: Imphal, Jan 2: Serious doubts have been raised over whether the Power Department had misused a sum of Rs 22 crore and the State Government has already started an inquiry to get to the bottom of the matter. During the course of an investigation conducted by The Sangai Express it came to light there is a strong possibility that a sum of Rs 22 crore may have been diverted for other purposes which are not included in the State Plan and out of the works approved under the Budget. It is learnt that the Rs 22 crore was meant for transmission work of 132, 32, 33, 220KV sub-stations as well as for constructing some sub-stations. A rat was smelt after it came to light that the Power Department had submitted a report to the Finance Department seeking the approval of the utilisation of the Rs 22 crore in November last year.
