Anti-Leprosy Day observed: As in other parts of the country, Anti-Leprosy Day was observed on Wednesday to coincide with the martyrdom of Mahatma Gandhiji in remembrance of the works done by him during his lifetime for the welfare of Leprosy patients at the hall of Leprosy Control Unit of Thoubal District Leprosy Society. Along with offering floral tributes to the photograph of Gandhiji, a one minute silence was observed. The main objective of the observance was to spread awareness among the people and encourage them to join hands in eradicating leprosy disease. Four persons who have been cured from the scourge of Leprosy were also felicitated with gifts at the occasion. The All Manipur Medical Department Leprosy Employees Association, AMMDLEA observed the "Anti Leprosy Day 2008 at the Leprosy Hospital, Lei-Ingkhol today at 10.30 am. Imphal Sewerage Project

Pipe laying to be over by mid-Jan: CM Imphal, Dec 31: The ongoing pipe-laying work on major roads of Imphal city, being taken up as part of the Imphal sewerage project, will be completed by the middle of next month, chief minister O Ibobi Singh said on Monday. The CM made the statement while taking a tour around the Imphal municipal areas on Monday morning to inspect work being undertaken at various places as part of the sewerage project. The chief minister also stated that restrictions on construction of private buildings higher than three stories within the Imphal municipal area will be strictly prohibited, and has warned owners of buildings violating this norm to tear down the excess stories at the earliest. Paona Bazar Videocon House Blast

Bomber already dead, claims nabbed PREPAK cadre: Imphal, Dec 9: A cadre of proscribed PREPAK, who was allegedly involved in the bomb blast at Sarajeevan Videocon House, Paona Bazar, on November 16, was nabbed by the Imphal west police commandos late yesterday, police said on Sunday. The police also came to know from the disclosures made by the arrested cadre that one of the PREPAK cadres killed in a shootout on December 6 at Lamphel RIMS colony was the main culprit in the bombing, SP Imphal West Clay Khongsai said.
