North East Games begin: Guwahati, Jan 30: Strong title contender Manipur began its campaign in the 22nd North East Games on a bright note grabbing seven gold, seven silver and eight bronze medals in athletics while both the women and men's teams tasted success in football competitions here on Wednesday. The State's medal hunt began with Ch Sonia claiming the women's 1500 metre race in 5:00.16 seconds before M Priya added the second yellow metal by emerging as the region's fastest women with a timing of 12.02 seconds in the 100 metre competition. Two gold medals won in judo competition by Semion kamei (men's open) N Bina Devi (62 kg) and three in weightlifting from Kh Khogen (56 kg), M Rita (48 kg) and Kh Bidyapati (53 kg) further bulged the medal haul. Manipur cyclists win four medals: Imphal, Dec 27: Manipur cyclists won one gold, two silver and a bronze medal in the 13th National Road Cycling Championship at Erode (Tamil Nadu) on Thursday. N Chaoba Devi pedalled to gold in the 30 km individual time trial with a timing of 50:40.39 sec and H Renubala added the 20 km time trial bronze in the under-19 girls' category. She clocked 36:04.15 sec. I Sonia provided one of the silver medals with a timing of 1::16:57.60 sec in the 7 km U-15 girls' individual time trial. Manipur wins five medals: Imphal, Dec 10: With a total haul of 3 gold and 2 silver medals, the state men’s team won the 27th National Junior Taekwondo Championship 2007 as their female counterparts also emulated the feat at Margao (Goa) with 1 gold, 4 silver and 2 bronze medals.
