Id-ul-Zuha Celebrations

Guv extends greetings: Imphal, Dec 20: Greeting the people of Manipur, particularly the Muslim community on the occasion of Idul Zuha, Governor Dr SS Sidhu has wished that the festival will be celebrated in its true spirit. In his message, Dr Sidhu said that the message of Idul Zuha is peaceful coexistence setting aside differences if caste, creed or religion. Joining the people of Manipur in celebrating Idul Zuha, Chief Minister prayed that this festival may bring love, peace, unity and prosperity in Manipur. Meitei Pangals face ban

‘Rebels’ ban short skirts: Imphal, Dec. 7: The People’s United Liberation Front (PULF) has imposed a ban on Muslim girls wearing tunics and skirts to schools and colleges from Class I and above from the next academic session in Manipur. In a statement issued yesterday, the militant outfit, whose cadres were drawn from Muslims known locally as Meitei Pangals, said Muslim girl students should wear either phanek, a long skirt, or salwar, that covers the ankles and sanctioned by Islamic law. The statement issued by the outfit’s information and publicity secretary Belal Khan said the colour of the dresses should follow the colour of uniforms of the educational institutions.
