Contractors decide to stop work: Lamka, Feb 5: The Khuga Multipurpose Project Contractors and Sub Contractors Association said on Tuesday that it has lost confidence, trust and faith in the state government as it had failed to carry out the commitments made to them. The association said it is constrained to impose a total and indefinite ban on the ongoing works on all components of the Khuga dam from the 5th of this month. The association has decided to impose a complete ban on the ongoing works along the Tiddim road diversion that are being undertaken with NEC funding if the demands they are making are not fulfilled. It said they had agreed with the government on January 12 at the Dam IB for the release of Rs. 1 crore without fail by January 20 and for the creation of special Tiddim road diversion funds. Cabinet to probe faulty contract process: Imphal, Dec 29: Along with revising the cost of Khuga Multipurpose Project which has been under construction since Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh was the Deputy Chairman of Union Planning Commission about 20 years back, the State Cabinet has decided to initiate an enquiry into awarding contract works worth Rs 29 crore which were out of the purview of the project and fix responsibility under Manipur Public Servant Personnel Liability Act. The Cabinet meeting held this evening with Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh in the chair decided to take up action against the engineers involved in awarding the contract works by invoking the provisions of the Act after an enquiry. Out of the contract works of Rs 29 crore which were awarded out of the purview of the project during 2005-06, Rs 11 crore had already been withdrawn while the work orders for over Rs 6 crore had been frozen by the Government after it got wind of the matter. IFCD EE Konjengbam Bheigyachandra abducted: Imphal, Dec. 7: An executive engineer of the Manipur irrigation and flood control department was abducted by unidentified persons on Wednesday, senior officials of the department said today. They said Konjengbam Bheigyachandra Singh, posted at Khuga multipurpose project in Churachandpur district, went missing after he left the head-office here on Wednesday morning. The department came to know about his abduction yesterday after Bheigyachandra Singh did not turn up for a meeting of senior engineers of the department and officials of National Project Consultative Corporation. The family of the engineer, who comes from Moirang in Bishnupur district, informed the department about the abduction. However, no group has claimed responsibility and the family could not offer any clue in this regard.
