Arms to Heirok, Chajing Citizens

Heirok derides 'doubting Thomases': Imphal, May 4: Objections raised by civil society organisations and former Chief Minister Radhabinod Koijam on the State Cabinet's decision to provide arms to people of heirok and Chajing villages have evoked sharp reaction from JAC functionaries of Heirok. Interacting with news-persons at heirok today, JAC president Kh Ibomcha reiterated that the proposal put to the Government for supply of guns is for self protection of the people from anti-social elements and not for killing 'our own blood brothers'. North East Cup Football

FLAM to clash KVFA in final: Imphal, Dec 27: FLAM edged out ATVFA 5-3 via tie-breaker and KVFA pipped VSAI 1-0 in semi-final matches of the 2nd North East Cup Veteran Football tournament at THAU Sports Complex on Thursday. As the first semi-final between FLAM and ATVFA ended 1-1 draw after normal period, Tarpon, Bobo, P Sunil and O Ibomcha scored for the Yaiskul veterans from the spot while only Rajen and Abdul Wahid were successful for the losers. NE Cup

VSAI, ATVFA win: Imphal, Dec 24: VSAI and ATVFA won their league matches and both teams entered the semi-final round of the NE Cup football tournament at THAU ground Thangmeiband here on Monday. In the first match, VSAI beat CBVT 4-0. The VSAI goal scorers were M Samarjit, who scored three goals in the 4th, 6th and 25th minute, and P Ibomcha who added one goal in the 14th minute. M Samarjit was awarded man of the match award with cash prize of Rs. 500. In another match, ATVFA of Thangmeiband beat SUVFA 3-0. ATVFA`s first goal was scored by Bale in the 1st minute of play and the last two goals were scored by Abdul Wahid in the 7th and 54th minute. Abdul Wahid was adjudged man of the match and received Rs. 500 cash prize. In the first semi-final, FLAM will clash with ATVFA while VSAI will play KVFA in the second semi-final.

Another Case of Abduction

This time forest officials: Imphal, Dec 24: Some officials of the state forest department were abducted by suspected militants on their way to a field visit at Saikhul in Senapati district on Saturday in the latest spate of abductions in the state. Sources believed that a Kuki based militant group was behind the abduction of the officials in connection with extortion demands served to the forest department. A source said that the number of officials taken into captivity was six. However, another highly reliable source at the state forest department said the officials taken into custody numbered only four. The source disclosed the name of the four officials as DFO Ibomcha, soil conservator Lekhosei Baite and two range officers Shanti and Sital. However, another source also said two other officials who were with them on that day were also among those missing. However, this could not be officially confirmed by the source. City Inn Hotel Shootout

3 KYKL cadres, including Lt Great, killed: Imphal, Dec 10: Three cadres of the underground Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup, KYKL, including a self-styled lieutenant, were killed by a combined team of police commandos from Bishnupur and Imphal west districts inside a city hotel on Monday morning around 10:15 am. The police recovered one AK-47 rifle with one magazine containing 22 live rounds, one 9mm pistol with three live rounds and one .36 hand grenade in the wake of the encounter that took place at the City Inn hotel at North AOC under Imphal west police station. According to a press statement issued by the SP Imphal West Clay Khongsai, the incident took place when a team of Bishnupur district police commandos assisted by Imphal West police commandos raided the hotel this morning following a tip off of the presence of some hardcore KYKL activists. Delimitation of Constutuencies

Ibobi-led team leaves for New Delhi to pursue matter: Imphal, Dec 7: An 18-member delegation of political parties of the state, led by chief minister O Ibobi Singh left Imphal for New Delhi this afternoon (Friday) to pressurise the Central authorities not to conduct delimitation work in Manipur based on the flawed 2001 census. The political delegates from the state led by the chief minister will meet the Union home minister Shivraj Patil tomorrow (Saturday) at 11:30 am to be followed by a meeting with the chairman of the Delimitation Commission of India, Justice Kuldip Singh. The team will also meet other Central leaders to seek immediate moratorium on the delimitation exercise for Manipur state based on the 2001 census, according to a source.
