Planning stir over retirement age: Imphal, Jan 31: The government college teacher community is contemplating to launch a stir if the teachers’ demands for increasing the age of superannuation to 62 years as per UGC norms and filling up of vacancies continue to be ignored by the government. Informing this to mediapersons at the Manipur Press Club on Thursday, P Laingam, president, All Manipur College Teachers Association said the demand for raising the age of superannuation to 62 for college teachers is a long-standing demand, but despite being aware that the teachers` demand is justified, the government has been sidelining the matter. The teachers` demand is that all components of established UGC norms in respect of higher education should be implemented in Manipur, he stated. He also noted that in 23 states of the country, the age of superannuation for colleges and university teachers has been increased from 60 to 62 and even 65 years.
