International women’s fortnight winds up: Imphal, Dec 13: With a call for greater participation of women in the decision making process, the observance of the International Fortnight Protesting Crime Against Women being organised by Women Action for Development (WAD) concluded on Thursday. The valedictory function of the observance was held at Nupi Lan Memorial Complex here with Member of Manipur State Commission for Women Laljan Begum as chief guest and senior journalist Kangujam Madhumangol Singh as functional president. Secretary of CVTC Haobam Surendra, Editor of Ereibak Arun Irengbam, Reader of DM College Silaramani and Field Officer of CASA OJ Meitei were also present at the occasion as guests of honour. Giving the key note address of the function, WAD secretary Subita Mangsatabam observed that the incidents of crime against women taking place in the Manipuri society today has caused serious impediment in the developmental pace of the State. Manipur gets up, stands up for its rights: Imphal, Dec 10: Manipur on Monday joined the rest of the world in observing International Human Rights Day in commemoration of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by the United Nations. Comprising of 30 articles, the Declaration was adopted by the UN General Assembly on December 10, 1948 to ensure protection of the rights of their respective citizens by all the signatory State members. Since then every year December 10 is being observed as the International Human Rights Day all over the world under various themes. The theme for this year’s observance is ‘Dignity and justice for all of us’.
