National Award on Manipuri Filmmaker
Aribam Shyam conferred V Shantaram award: New Delhi, Feb 4: Manipuri filmmaker Aribam Shyam Sharma has been selected for the V Shantaram Award for lifetime achievement in documentary film making. Chief Minister of Maharashtra Vilasrao Deshmukh, who was the chief guest at the inaugural function of the 10th Mumbai International Film Festival for Documentary, Short and Animation Films 2008, announced his name for the award amidst huge applause at the inauguration of the festival in Mumbai on Sunday night. The award carrying a cash prize of Rs. 2.5 lakh, a citation and a shawl instituted by the Films Division, ministry of information and broadcasting will be conferred on February 9. It is for the first time in the history of Mumbai International Film Festival (MIIF) that a person from north east India has been awarded the prestigious award.
