International Tent Pegging Meet: Ten riders have been selected (nominally) to participate in the International Tent Pegging Championship to be held at the Imphal Pologround from Janaury 10 to 14. The shortlisted players are: HC Jaswinder Singh (BSF); SI Jaswinder Singh, Insp Jagdish Singh, ASI Youngbir Singh, SI Talwinder Singh (Punjab Police); HC Suresh Kumar, HC Sashidharan (ITBP); Maj Vivek Rehni, Sub Omprakash (ASC-N); CHM Jitender Singh (ASC-Bangalore). Police equestrian meet from Friday: The 26th All India Police Equestrian Meet 2008, organised by Manipur Police, will be held at Pologround, Imphal from Friday. Chief Minister Okram Ibobi and Youth Affairs and Sports Minister N Biren will grace the opening function as chief guest and president respectively while Education Minister L Jayantakumar and PDA Chairman Dr Kh Loken will be the guest of honour. 196 men and 106 horse will participate in the meet. ITBP emerge champions: Imphal, Dec 31: With the quartet of HC Karan Singh, HC Shasidhran, HC Babulal and HC Sureshkumar bagging gold medal in the Team Tent Pegging (Indian File) event on Monday, the Indo-Tibetan Border Police emerged champions of the National Tent Pegging Championship 2007 with a total haul of four gold medals and four bronze. In the other event of the day at Mapal Kangjeibung, ITBP won another gold in the Tent Pegging Lance Team event. The runners-up position of the Championship went to Punjab Police with one gold and four silver while ASC (North) have to settle with third position. The ASC (N) won one gold and two silver.

National Road Cycling Championship: H Renubala and K Suchitra respectively pedalled to one silver and a bronze each on the third day of the 13th National Road Cycling Championship at Erode district of Tamil Nadu on Saturday. Renubala's silver medal came in the 50 km road mass start event in the Under-19 girls’ category while the bronze won by Suchitra was in the senior girls' 75 km road mass start. Manipur has, so far, garnered two gold, four silver and two bronze medals. CM calls for saving ponies: Imphal, Dec 27: Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh on Thursday strongly advocated contributions from all sections of the society in ensuring survival of the endangered Manipuri ponies. Inaugurating the National Tent Pegging Championship at Imphal Pologround, the Chief Minister recalled history of the erstwhile kingdom of Manipur wherein rulers strived for protecting the ponies as the animal species had been associated with the role in protecting and expanding the kingdom. Stating that Manipur has history of State support to equestrian games, the chief guest of the inaugural programme also reminded that kings in the past ensured that polo remained a people's sports which automatically entailed wellbeing of ponies. AMWJU GBM on Thursday: An emergency general body meeting of the All Manipur Working Journalists Union, AMWJU, has been convened on Thursday at 10:30 am at Manipur Press Club, Imphal. This is in connection with two statements received at media offices from the KCP (MC) group. As there has been pressure from a quarter to publish one statement and not to publish the other, the meeting has been convened to decide the AMWJU’s stance. International Tent Pegging Tourney in Manipur

Mapal Kangjeibung venue for meet in January: Imphal, Dec. 13: It’s going to be a double treat for sportslovers of Manipur with the state slated to organise a national and an international tent pegging championship between December 27 and January 14 at Mapal Kangjeibung. Altogether nine teams have confirmed their participation for the national championship to be held in Imphal from December 27 to 31. The meet is being organised by the Manipur Equestrian Association. The nine teams that have confirmed their publication are Punjab, Haryana, Assam, West Bengal Police, a BSF team from Madhya Pradesh, the Fort William team from West Bengal, ASC Centre and College, Bangalore, ASC South Uttar Pradesh and Manipur. For the International Tent Pegging Championship 2008, to be held under the aegis of Equestrian Federation of India between January 10 and 14, teams from the UK, Oman, Egypt and India have confirmed their participation.
