AMWJU GBM on Thursday:

An emergency general body meeting of the All Manipur Working Journalists Union, AMWJU, has been convened on Thursday at 10:30 am at Manipur Press Club, Imphal.

This is in connection with two statements received at media offices from the KCP (MC) group. As there has been pressure from a quarter to publish one statement and not to publish the other, the meeting has been convened to decide the AMWJU’s stance.

All AMWJU members and media editors have been asked to attend the emergency meeting.

National Tent Pegging meet begins on Thursday:

The National Tent Pegging Championships being held for the first time in Manipur, commences on Thursday at the Imphal Polo ground.

The five day long competition is being organised with the theme, ‘Save Manipuri Pony’.

Altogether eight teams, plus the hosts, will be participating in the competition, including the ITBP, Haryana; ASC, North Gaya; Assam Rifles, Jorhat; UP police; ASC, Bangalore; West Bengal Police, Kolkata Police and Eastern Command.

Manipur Equestrian Association informed that one of the reasons for organising this unique competition in the state is to provide greater exposure to the Manipuri pony whose numbers are dwindling.

Protest against Army post still on:

The sit-in-protest staged against the order issued by the Deputy Commissioner of Imphal West, which seeks to open an Army post at the campus of Malom Megha High School at Malom continues till Wednesday.

The order was issued on December 19 and the protest started from December 21.

Moreover, the JAC formed to lead the protest has also decided to intensify its agitation from December 30 if the DC’s order is not withdrawn by December 29.

Among others the agitation will include imposing an indefinite bandh along Tiddim Road.

ZSU warns Govt. to respect MoU:

Urging the Government to abide by the MoU it signed with the Zeliangrong Students’ Union, Tamenglong on May 25 this year during a meeting with the Chief Minister, the student body on Wednesday said it would be constrained to launch a series of agitation if the Government fails to respect the MoU.

A statement issued by the student body today said that the contents of the MoU included the construction of a retaining wall near the Barak river as well as to construct a new Makru bridge.

This point was raised after a joint field inspection of the two bridges came across many discrepancies.

Dwijamani hockey:
Meiraa, Bashikhong and SAI RC-A, Takyel will clash for the title of the 19th G Dwijamani Sharma 6-a-side Men’s Hockey Tournament on December 28.

In semi-final matches played on Wednesday at Yumjao Lairembi Lampak, Imphal, Meiraa outplayed Cosmo (Junior) 3-1 as SAI RC-A overcame Yaiskul’s PHAM-W 3-2.

The third-place match will be played on Thursday.

Sub-Junior baseball:
SVC, Heirangoithong defeated BSA-A, Yaiskul 6-4 to wrest the boys title as ESC-A, Nongmeibung outclassed ESC-B 12-2 for the girls’ crown of the 1st State Level Sub-junior Baseball Championship which concluded at DM College of Science ground on Tuesday.

In all, eight boys and five girls teams had participated in the competition which began on December 20.
