State cyclists win more medals:
Manipur added one gold and same number of silver to its overnight tally of one gold, two silver and one bronze medal on the second day of the 13th national Road Cycling Championship at Erode in Tamil Nadu on Friday.
L Maniton clocked 44:59.59 sec to win the 30 km individual time trial event while N Chaoba, K Suchitra, T Neeta and I Gautamani raced to the 50 km road team time trial silver medal with a timing of 1 hour 27 min 53.08 sec.
Meiraa wrest hockey title:
K Chinglensana's brace helped Meiraa, Bashikhong, clinch the title of the 19th G Dwijamani Sharma Memorial six-a-side men's hockey tournament with a 2-1 victory over SAI RC, Takyel at Yumjao Lairembi Lampak at Imphal on Friday.
The one hour game saw SAI surge ahead in the 49th minute through K Naocha before the eventual champions rallied with Chinglensana scoring in the 54th and 59th minutes.
Chinglensana was declared player of the final while Kh Kothajit of PHAM-W was adjudged the best player of the tournament.
The champions were awarded Rs 5000 and trophy for their effort while runners-up SAI RC were presented Rs 3000.
Volleyball squad for junior nationals:
All Manipur Volleyball Association has selected 12 players and two officials to represent the state in the 34th Junior National Men’s Volleyball Championship to be held at Nagpur (Maharashtra) from January 6 to 13.
Players: Kh Naobi, N Sushildro, N Somendro (SLC); P Yaipharen, L Ibochouba (YMDA); Y Shantikumar, E Sushil, Y Herojit, L Sotinkumar, S Devakumar (KYSU); H Bonison (SDC).
Officials: Kh Lokendro (Head-coach-cum-manager), Th Brajakishore (Asst. coach).
Educational tour:
Ist Assam Rifles, under the aegis of HQ IGAR (S), organised an educational tour to Delhi and Amritsar for the underprivileged and orphaned youth of Kamjong sub-division on December 4.
Youths drawn from various villages of the sub-division and belonging to both the ethnic communities of Tangkhuls and Kukis participated in the tour which was flagged off by Maj Gen BK Chengapa, IGAR (S).
In Delhi, they visited Rail Museum, Nehru Planetarium, Jantra Mantra, Lotus Temple and India Gate and while at Amritsar, they visited Jallianwala Bagh, Golden Temple and Wagah Border.
The educational tour returned to Kamjong on December 24.
Bharat Nirman drive to be launched at CCpur:
Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Governmrnt of India and Press Information Bureau (PIB), Imphal, would be jointly launching the Bharat Nirman Campaign over a period of four days with effect from January 8 next year at Synod Hall of Churachandpur district headquarters.
PIB Imphal Media and Communication Officer M Premlata said the main objective of the campaign is to spread awareness among the people on the various developmental schemes and programmes being taken up by the Government.
A coordinating committee has been set up with DDK Imphal, AIR Imphal, Song and Drama Division Imphal, Directorate of Field and Publicity, PIB as the constituent representatives of Prasar Bharati, Premlata informed, adding that the Station Director of AIR has also been appointed as the chairman of the committee.
Photo exhibition, painting competition, discussion and lectures would be main highlight of the event.
Shot dead:
Unidentified gunmen shot dead one Henam Boyboi (38) s/o Kanhai of Senjam Chirang maning Leikai at around 8.20 pm on Thursday.
The victim recovered from a paddy field at near Chirang Mayai Leikai under Sekmai police station, is said to be a pisiculturist.
According to family sources, Boyboi was asleep when two out of four unidentified persons barged into his room and whisked away the 38-year-old man.
As his parents and wife went in search of Boyboi after he failed to show up for quite some time his body was found lying at the paddy field.
A bullet that hit Boyboi on the throat penetrated through the temple area. The body has been handed over to family members after the post mortem at RIMS Morgue on Friday.

Based on specific information, troops of 34 Assam Rifles of 9 Sector under HQ IGAR (South) launched a well-planned and quick operation in general area of Langthel Mamang Leikai and apprehended one PREPAK cadre on Friday, according to a statement issued by PRO Assam Rifles.
Identifying the arrested cadre as SS Maj Shagolsem Yaima Singh alias Ibomcha alias Henry alias Ngakpiba (34) s/o Madhuchandra Singh of Langthel Mamang Leikai ,batch no.08 of PREPAK, the PRO informed that the arrested individual has been handed over to Thoubal Police Station later in the afternoon on Friday.
Korean national detained by police:
Imphal: A Korean national who was found entering Manipur without mandatory documents was rounded up by the police on Wednesday last and produced before the district magistrate on Friday.
The Korean national was identified as John Chen Choi, a resident of 299 Mill road, Toronto, Canada. He reportedly entered the Manipur by road through national highway number 39 which passes through Nagaland.
He was found taking shelter at Eastern Colony near the Senapati bridge. When police checked him, there were no documents needed for entering the state under the restricted area permit regime which is in force in the state.
