Tripura Girl’s Bold Initiative
Opting for cinema to fight militancy:
Agartala: There has been different ways of condemning militancy, which has turned out as a biggest menace in recent years, but the efforts of a young girl from Tripura have been a unique one.
Raikishori Ganguli has opted to use the medium of cinema to fight against the 'evil force' of militancy, which has taken thousands of lives in the State in the last two and a half decades.
Ganguli, who recently completed a film study course from Jadavpur University in Kolkata, has directed a short Bengali film titled "Bhalo Rakhoni Bhoy" to make people aware of the threats from militancy.
The 12-minute film has been selected in the Short Film Category at Kolkata, and it deals with the psychological condition of a salesman and his frightful daily experiences with events that happen around the world.
The filmmaker, who herself has been a victim of militancy, has used the film to narrate her own personal experiences.
According to the filmmaker, the mass media not only sacrifices all ethics, but somehow they are also responsible for the crime of giving wide publicity to the events.
"I think this is the first time a film has been made on such a subject. I think now it is the duty of the media to make this film reach to masses of the state, because it can create a kind of awareness, said Kinkar Narayan Dutta, a film lover.
