Manipuri student dies in Delhi:

A Manipuri student doing his degree course in Delhi University identified as Mesak Sinate (22) s/o Damhau Sinate of Reng-kai, Churachandpur died after falling down from the second floor of a building at Lajpat Nagar, Delhi in the evening of December 25.

Five militants nabbed:

Five militants, belonging to three separate organizations, were nabbed during the past 24 hours in three different incidents in Manipur.

Police said one militant was apprehended by Manipur Police and 39 Assam Rifles (AR) troops and Rs 70,000 was recovered from his possession.

Imphal West commandos nabbed three people, suspected to be Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) cadres.

In another incident, AR troops nabbed a People’s United Liberation Front (PULF) cadre and handed him over to the police on Wednesday.

Whip cracked against illegal hoardings:

Acting on the instruction of the Union Ministry of Road Transport (Highway), Public Works Department (PWD), Government of Manipur has taken up all necessary arrangements for removing the hoardings being put up along the Kangla Moat as well as on either sides of Nupi Lan Memorial complex at Imphal very soon.

The instruction of the Union Ministry of Road Transport followed the resolution adopted during the quarterly review committee meeting of its Project-10. The Ministry had given the instruction to the State PWD for doing the needful for removing the hoardings being put up illegally and in violation of the laid down guidelines along the Highways passing through the State within a timeframe.

Accordingly the PWD has taken up necessary arrangements for removing such hoardings.

Executive Engineer of PWD Highway Division-II has been entrusted with the task of removing all the illegal hoardings put up along Kangla moat starting right from Minuthong point to the northern gate of Raj Bhavan while Executive Engineer of PWD Highway Division-III has been entrusted with the task of removing hoardings from near Nupi Lan Memorial Complex to the southern side of the Raj Bhavan.

Works halted at Singjamei:

Peeved at alleged inaction of the state government for safe release of Salam Indrajit, abducted by unidentified persons since December 15, the JAC for the Immediate and Unconditional Release of Salam Indrajit Singh, SO Education (S) Engineering Cell has prohibited all development works being taken up by state government in Singjamei area from Thursday.

As a part of the protest agitation, the road stretch from Singjamei Parking to Yumnam Leikai Lairembi along NH 39 will be blocked from 6 am till 6 pm on Friday.

Speaking to reporters on Thursday, the JAC representatives lamented that despite several appeals to the State Goverment and the Department concerned to take up some concrete steps so as to affect safe release of Indrajit, the authorities still remain indifferent.

They also appealed to all civil organisations, Meira Paibis and the general public to help securing safe release of Indrajit.

Security men charged with looting Church official:

A combined team of 39 AR, BSF and Imphal East District Commandos reportedly launched massive combing operation in Nongren, Happy Valley, Oksu, Laikoiching.

However, there is no report of any arrest made during the operation.

However, while returning back after the operation, some of the security personnel allegedly punched Venchuri Saiza, who is the clerk of Happy Valley Baptist Church and snatched Rs 400 from his possession which is actually the fund of the church.

Afterwards, the security personnel reportedly handed over Rs 500 to the church as Christmas gift.

MAFYF president Sapamcha Kangleipal has decried the conduct of the security personnel.

Programme on Planet Earth:

A country wide programme under the banner "Understanding Planet Earth" will be launched on January 3 as part of the International Year of Planet Earth 2008-09.

On the same day, a cycle rally will be taken out in Manipur as a part of the country wide programme under the joint aegis of Science Teachers' Forum Manipur and MAASI, the Rashtriya Vigyan Prodyogiki Sanchar Parishad and the Department of Science and Technology, New Delhi.

The cycle rally carrying the message of "Safeguarding Our Mother Earth" will be flagged off from Bishnupur, Imphal and Ukhrul simultaneously at 9.30 am.

DM College resolution:

The students' union of DM College Commerce has resolved that every students of the college should maintain 75 percentage attendance, otherwise they would not be allowed to appear in the examination to be conducted by the Manipur University.

Moreover, the student union has resolved that teaching and non-teaching staff of the college have to attend to their duties at the colleges for not less than 42 hours a week in accordance to the prescribed rules of UGC.
