Imphal book fair winds up
The Imphal Book Fair jointly organised by the State Central Library and Kolkata-based Raja Ram Mohun Roy Foundation wound up on Monday at Hapta Kangjeibung. The book fair started on December 16.
This year’s Best Reader Award constituted by State Central Library went to Dr L Mangal Khuman of Nepra Menjor Mamang, Khwairakpam Leikai, Imphal.
The Best Book Production award for the year went to “Khambi Meigi Mashasing,” a book translated into Manipuri by Dr Soibam Ibocha, a senior police officer while the Best Stall decoration was bagged by M/S Mittal Publications, New Delhi.
The Best Disciplined Stall prize was bagged buy M/S Priya Books, New Delhi. The three award winners were also presented with Rs 500 each.
KLA condemns detention of civilians
The KLA has strongly condemned the act of the KNF (P) in detaining innocent civilians
near Sapermeina on NH-39 following a gun fight at Nongpok Keithelmanbi with the PLA on December 23.
Such action might create communal misunderstanding, said Armstrong Kuki in a statement and asked both KNF (P) and PLA to honour the spirit of Christmas and New Year so that all can enjoy the auspicious occasions in peace.
PREPAK refutes
The proscribed PREPAK on Monday claimed that N Samananda (32) of Thanga Nongmaikhong who was shot by 7 Assam Rifles and arrested later on December 22 from Thanga Chingjin at about 8.30 pm and N Romajit (32) of Kongpal Chanam Leikai and S Thouba Meitei (26) of Langathel Thingam Leikai who were shot dead by Imphal East police commandos on December 23 at about 5.30 pm at Porompat Heikakmapal were in no way related to the outfit.
In a statement, the secretary in charge of the dept of publicity and propaganda of PREPAK, Aheiba Angom said that all the three are and were innocent civilians and they were targeted by the police and security forces on false charges.
Op Samtal: Another hide out busted
Assam Rifles have claimed that yet another hide out of the UNLF was busted on December 22 in the ongoing offensive launched at Samtal and Dingpi area.
Assam Rifles PRO said troops recovered eight kgs of PEK explosives, one RPG round, eight magazines, nine fired cases of Lathode, 15 blankets, four nine volt batteries, one 12 volt car batteries, eight jerry cans, 13 plates, 12 bowls, one entrenching tool, one duty register, two six-inch medicine from the busted hideout.

One of two killed in Kongpal shootout dentified
The identity of one of the UG suspects reportedly killed on Sunday by Imphal East District Police Commandos during an alleged encounter at Kongpal Laingam Loukon under Porompat Police Station has been established as Ningthoujam Romajit Meitei (32) s/o Tomba of Kongpal Chanam Leikai.
The post-mortem examination of the body was conducted at the mortuary of RIMS on Monday before it was handed it over to his family members.
Police have not yet been able to identity the other UG suspect who was also shot dead by the Commando team in the same incident on Sunday.
According to police, the slain youth has lean body structure with fair completion and found clad in a blue colour jacket with a black T-shirt underneath and a grey colour trousers.
KRA denies split:
The Kuki Revolutionary Army (KRA) has clarified that there is no question of a split in the outfit or change of leadership.
Briefing mediapersons at a place in Sadar Hills on Monday, KRA publicity secretary Th Misao maintained that there is no break-up in the outfit nor defection of any leader to set up a new group.
The publicity secretary categorically refused to acknowledge the existence of any armed outfit with the name KRA (U).
After the death of its leader Kiangsing, the outfit is working under Chungminlen Hangshing who was elected acting general secretary of the KRA Central Working Committee for two months, informed Misao.
Denying any connection between KRA and KRA (U), the publicity secretary clarified that KRA (U) is not a split group of the KRA.
