Vehicles stranded at Mao: Imphal, Apr 25: More than 100 vehicles including 21 inter-state passenger buses were stranded at Mao gate owing to the 24-hour Senapati district-wide “Black Day” bandh called by the Youth Front of Senapati. The bandh along the Imphal-Mao section of the national highway that commenced late Thursday night, was called to pressurize the Manipur government for revocation of the cancelled census report 2001 in respect of three sub-divisions in Senapati district. A report from Mao gate said as many as 124 vehicles including 21 inter-state tourist buses and 103 goods ferrying trucks were stranded at the gate. Business and other establishments including schools and government offices were also closed for the day and the Senapati district headquarters wore a deserted look. However, there was no report of any untoward incident at the time of filing this report. Senapati Student bodies flay thrashing: Strongly condemning severe thrashing of three prominent citizens of Senapati district on April 23 night by some persons claiming to be UG activists, the Senapati District Students' Association (SDSA), Maram Students'Union, Mao Students' Union, Poumei Students' Union, Thangal Students' Union and Zeliangrong Students' Union (Senapati) demanded appropriate action by authorities concerned immediately failing which the student bodies would be constrained to take up befitting action.
