KLASA, TRUGPU in Loktak trophy final: Moirang, Feb 5: KLASA and TRUGPU entered the final of the ongoing 1st Loktak trophy 2008 organised by AMOFA Moirang at Moirang Multipurpose ground here on Tuesday. In the semifinal matches on Tuesday, KLASA laboured to a hard-fought 6-5 win against MBSU, Wahengbam via tie-breakers after normal time ended with both sides scoring two goals each while TRUGPU recorded a comfortable 3-1 win over KRYPSA, Naoremthong. Naoton opened the TRUGPU score with a goal in the sixth minute followed by Boynao extending the lead in the 28th. Even though KRYPSA's James pulled one back with a 37th minute strike, Naoton regained the lead for the Nambol side in the 42nd minute. NEROCA win, NISA bite dust: Imphal, Jan 7: YWC Thambalkhong edged past NISA Thangmeiband by a solitary goal at Sekmai while NEROCA beat KFC Kakching 3-0 at Kakching. In other matches of the Manipur State League played on Sunday, ESU Wangkhei were held by PYC Phoudel at Phoudel 1-1 while MPSC drew with USA Khurai by a similar scoreline. Imphal Sewerage Project

Pipe laying to be over by mid-Jan: CM Imphal, Dec 31: The ongoing pipe-laying work on major roads of Imphal city, being taken up as part of the Imphal sewerage project, will be completed by the middle of next month, chief minister O Ibobi Singh said on Monday. The CM made the statement while taking a tour around the Imphal municipal areas on Monday morning to inspect work being undertaken at various places as part of the sewerage project. The chief minister also stated that restrictions on construction of private buildings higher than three stories within the Imphal municipal area will be strictly prohibited, and has warned owners of buildings violating this norm to tear down the excess stories at the earliest. MEELAL ready to take to masses: Imphal, December 29: With introduction of Meetei Mayek to students till class III successfully, the text books for class IV to be taught from the next academic session 2008-09 have already been printed and made ready, MEELAL president Ngaseppam Yumjao has informed. As for teaching Meetei Mayek to the general public, Yumjao added, necessary preparations have been made for launching a mass campaign with effect from January 2 next year. Talking to mediapersons at the office of MEELAL located at Kanglapat today, Yumjao said MEELAL has been able to accomplish many tasks including introduction of Meetei Mayek till class III and use of Meetei Mayek on the nameplates of vehicles with the support of the people this year. National Road Cycling Championship: H Renubala and K Suchitra respectively pedalled to one silver and a bronze each on the third day of the 13th National Road Cycling Championship at Erode district of Tamil Nadu on Saturday. VSAI, ATVFA win: Imphal, Dec 24: VSAI and ATVFA won their league matches and both teams entered the semi-final round of the NE Cup football tournament at THAU ground Thangmeiband here on Monday. In the first match, VSAI beat CBVT 4-0. The VSAI goal scorers were M Samarjit, who scored three goals in the 4th, 6th and 25th minute, and P Ibomcha who added one goal in the 14th minute. M Samarjit was awarded man of the match award with cash prize of Rs. 500. In another match, ATVFA of Thangmeiband beat SUVFA 3-0. ATVFA`s first goal was scored by Bale in the 1st minute of play and the last two goals were scored by Abdul Wahid in the 7th and 54th minute. Abdul Wahid was adjudged man of the match and received Rs. 500 cash prize. In the first semi-final, FLAM will clash with ATVFA while VSAI will play KVFA in the second semi-final.

Imphal veterans top points tally: Imphal, Dec. 21: Veteran Sports Association, Imphal, defeated All Thangmeiband Veteran Football Association by a solitary goal to top Group A with six points in the Northeast Veterans’ Football Cup at Thangmeiband Athletic Union ground. Engineer shot at by gunmen: Imphal, Dec 21: An executive engineer of the state IFCD Soubam Dhanabir, 52, was shot at both legs by unidentified gunmen at his house at Thangmeiband Sinam Leikai on Friday morning at around 7.30 am. The victim was evacuated to Shija Hospital where he is reported to be out of danger. According to Dhanabir, an unidentified youth walked into his living room without a word and shot him twice in both thighs. The youth fled the spot immediately afterwards along with another youth who was waiting at his gate on a motorcycle. Dhanabir was operated on at Shija Hospital and both bullets removed. Hospital sources said he was out of danger. Police sources believe the shooting to be the handiwork of the KCP (MC) group. In yet another incident, unidentified persons left hand grenades at the homes of Laishram Gourakishore, executive engineer, minor irrigation, and one Ningombam Gojen, said to be a relative of chief minister O Ibobi Singh, on Friday morning. Ban on Tobacco Consumption

Khaini, Zarda burnt: Imphal, Dec 20: A considerable quantity of tobacco products including Talab, Khaini, Zarda and mitha mana seized by cadres of RPF Division IV were consigned to flames at about 6.25 pm on Thursday after the seized products were handed over to volunteers of the Khoyathong Polem Leikai local club. Five shops have also banned for three to six months for reportedly selling tobacco products. The shops belong to Chitra Devi (42) w/o Leishangthem Lokendro of Thangmeiband Sinam Leikai, Haikham Sanju (22) s/o Dhiren of Thangmeiband Yumnam Leikai, Khwairakpam Kula s/o Anand of Thangmeiband Yumnam Leikai, Hemabati Devi w/o Achoibam Naocha of Thangmeiband Sinam Leikai and Kshetrimayum Deventi Devi w/o Basan of Thangmeiband Sinam Leikai. KVFA, FLAM register wins: Imphal, Dec 18: Maniratan’s 16th minute goal helped KVFA, Khurai, register a facile 1-0 win over VSAC, Churachandpur, while FLAM, Yaiskul, overwhelmed Chingtam, Chingmeirong , 4-2 in league matches of the 2nd North East Cup veteran football tournament at THAU Sports Complex on Tuesday. The FLAM goals were netted by N Bobo (3rd), E Ratan (39th) and G Gaitharung (60th, 78th) while S Bungomacha (37th) and Athui Rongmei (73rd) bridged the score deficit for the Chingmeirong veterans.
