Ban on Tobacco Consumption

Imphal, Dec 20: A considerable quantity of tobacco products including Talab, Khaini, Zarda and mitha mana seized by cadres of RPF Division IV were consigned to flames at about 6.25 pm on Thursday after the seized products were handed over to volunteers of the Khoyathong Polem Leikai local club.

Five shops have also banned for three to six months for reportedly selling tobacco products. The shops belong to Chitra Devi (42) w/o Leishangthem Lokendro of Thangmeiband Sinam Leikai, Haikham Sanju (22) s/o Dhiren of Thangmeiband Yumnam Leikai, Khwairakpam Kula s/o Anand of Thangmeiband Yumnam Leikai, Hemabati Devi w/o Achoibam Naocha of Thangmeiband Sinam Leikai and Kshetrimayum Deventi Devi w/o Basan of Thangmeiband Sinam Leikai.

Some tobacco items were also seized from the shops of Chanambam Bimola of Leirenhanjaba Leikai, Laishram Ibeyaima of Sinam Leikai, Ngangbam Sarat of Lourungpurel Leikai and Laishram Inao of Lourungpurel Leikai.

Inter-State buses suspend service: Imphal, May 4: Following the All Manipur Inter-State Bus Services Association (AMISBSA)'s decision to suspend buses services indefinitely due to 'heavy' monetary demands from various elements, all buses plying along the National Highways have suspended service from Sunday. The association has been compelled to take the decision owing to various elements, undergrounds and overgrounds demanding heavy amount of money from the transporters, a spokesman of the association told media persons on Sunday evening. The spokesman said transporters, mainly passenger buses, are facing many problems due to the heavy imposition of monetary demands and 'taxes' by different underground groups operating in both hills and valley districts. Murder in Mumbai!

Manipuri girl found dead Imphal/Mumbai, July 15 : A 27-year-old Manipuri girl working as a customer relationship manager in a Mumbai five star hotel was found dead in her hostel at Marol in Andheri shortly after midnight on Friday. Ch. Alena’s body was found hanging by a dupatta from the balcony of the hostel she shared with three other girls, authorities at Hotel Leela Kempinski said. But injury marks in her private parts have raised suspicions that she may have been sexually assaulted before being strangulated. Though family members performed the last rites at Kongpal Kshetri Leikai of Imphal East this afternoon, they demanded a thorough probe by the Mumbai police into the circumstances leading to her death.
