Engineer shot at by gunmen:

Imphal, Dec 21: An executive engineer of the state IFCD Soubam Dhanabir, 52, was shot at both legs by unidentified gunmen at his house at Thangmeiband Sinam Leikai on Friday morning at around 7.30 am.

The victim was evacuated to Shija Hospital where he is reported to be out of danger.

According to Dhanabir, an unidentified youth walked into his living room without a word and shot him twice in both thighs. The youth fled the spot immediately afterwards along with another youth who was waiting at his gate on a motorcycle.

Dhanabir was operated on at Shija Hospital and both bullets removed. Hospital sources said he was out of danger.

Police sources believe the shooting to be the handiwork of the KCP (MC) group.

In yet another incident, unidentified persons left hand grenades at the homes of Laishram Gourakishore, executive engineer, minor irrigation, and one Ningombam Gojen, said to be a relative of chief minister O Ibobi Singh, on Friday morning.

According to reports, some unidentified youths hurled a grenade into the compound of Gourakishore`s residence at Singjamei Chingamakha at around 7.30 am. The grenade which fell at the side of the house, did not explode and was removed and disposed of by the police at around 11.30 am.

In the other incident, a grenade was found on the roof of Ningombam Gojen`s home at Thoubal Ningombam at around 8 am after it was apparently hurled there by unknown persons. This grenade was also destroyed by a police bomb squad.

Gojen is said to be a close relative of chief minister O Ibobi's wife, MLA Landhoni Devi.

Inter-State buses suspend service: Imphal, May 4: Following the All Manipur Inter-State Bus Services Association (AMISBSA)'s decision to suspend buses services indefinitely due to 'heavy' monetary demands from various elements, all buses plying along the National Highways have suspended service from Sunday. The association has been compelled to take the decision owing to various elements, undergrounds and overgrounds demanding heavy amount of money from the transporters, a spokesman of the association told media persons on Sunday evening. Murder in Mumbai!

Manipuri girl found dead Imphal/Mumbai, July 15 : A 27-year-old Manipuri girl working as a customer relationship manager in a Mumbai five star hotel was found dead in her hostel at Marol in Andheri shortly after midnight on Friday. Ch. Alena’s body was found hanging by a dupatta from the balcony of the hostel she shared with three other girls, authorities at Hotel Leela Kempinski said.
