Rio wants Myanmar to recognize NSCN (K)
Guwahati, Dec 20: The Nagaland Government wants that the Mynamarese Junta recognize the NSCN (K) group of militants holed up in that country for early resolution of the Naga peace process.
Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio said he had raised the matter with the External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukharjee. “I am going to write to Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh to pressurize the military junta to recognize the NSCN (K) in their side of the border so that we can push forward the case,” he said.
The NSCN(K) or Khaplang faction of National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN) has been largely based at Myanmar since they had split up with the Issac-Muivah faction of the NSCN. As the peace process has entered a crucial stage with the Centre, there were efforts to cover all the Nagas under the possible solution.
However, it is not so easy as the political boundary of India and Myanmar have separated many Naga villages living on the edge of the Mokukchang and Mon districts of Nagaland but they fall inside Myanmar.
The Nagaland government wants that the Mynamarese government recognize the presence of Nagas and NSCN (K) so that Nagaland government can help the Nagas living in the remotest parts of the world involve in the peace process.
These Naga people are neither governed by the Myanmarese government nor the Nagaland government as they cannot be touched because of international boundary.
Exactly for the reason, both the factions of the NSCNs are fighting for sovereign Nagalim involving the Nagas scattered over Nagaland, Manipur, Myanmar, Arunachal Pradesh and some parts of Asom.
This new move of Nagaland has been seen in the political circle as aimed at keeping the Khaplang faction of NSCN in good humour before the February election of the Nagaland legislative Assembly as both the section of NSCN are trying to forge unity.
“If they get united, then it is great. It is the best thing for peace solution. But sectoral unity on the ethnic line may produce more blood bath,” he warned.
This is noteworthy that warring factions of NSCN had come together and signed a ceasefire agreement between them where another militant organization, the Naga National Council (NNC), was also present.
