Garbage Dumping at Cong Bhavan

DM students lodge novel protest: Imphal, Feb 5: Lodging a novel protest, perhaps the first of its kind in Manipur, the DM College Students' Union collected the dirt and garbage piled up inside their campus as well as at the entry gate of the institution and dumped them in front of Congress Bhawan and at the gate of the Education Minister L Jayanta, at Pishumthong on Monday night. Talking to The Sangai Express the students said that they were constrained to dump the garbage in front of the powers that be as repeated appeals to remove the same had fallen on deaf ears. The students further said that one of them was pulled up by the police on Tuesday, but he was released later. A case has also been registered with the Singjamei police station, they said and added that they strongly condemn the act. Security forces strike it rich: Imphal, Feb 5: Security forces have arrested five activists, including three PREPAK cadres and two PULF men in the last 48 hours. According to a statement of the SP (IW) Clay Khongsai a commando team acted swiftly upon receiving information of unknown miscreants attacking the Keishamthong Moirangningthou Leirak residence of Executive Engineer of Education (S) Department's Engineering Cell Yumnam Deben Singh at around 8.20 pm on Monday. While the commandos arrested one Koijam Warjit Singh (s/o) (L) K Yaima of Thongju Part-I Pheija Leitong from the incident site, three others managed to evade arrest. Women killed in New Samtal blast: In a tragic incident, three women were killed when a bomb exploded while they were working under the NREGS programme at New Samtal area in Chandel district at about 12 noon on Monday. The incident took place while the women were clearing the road. The three victims have been identified as Lhingkhonem (45), Hoikim Guite (45) and Paumeng Haokip (43). Many others were injured in the bomb blast. Shop owner shot by suspected UGs: A 27-old shop owner was hospitalised after he was shot at by two unidentified gunmen suspected to be UGs on Saturday evening at Kakwa bazar under Singjamei police station at Imphal. The injured man, identified as Konthoujam Pilot of Singjamei Thongam Leikai was reportedly shot with a single bullet at his left thigh by two unidentified gunmen inside his shop at Kakwa bazar at around 7.15 pm on Saturday without any reason. The victim was adimtted to Shija hospital, and Singjamei police registered a case in this connection. Salam Indrajit released: Imphal, Jan 2: Salam Indrajit, Section Officer in the Engineering Cell of state's Education Department, whose whereabouts remained unknown after he was reportedly abducted by some unidentified persons on December 15 last, has returned home safe and sound on Tuesday. According to information, Indrajit was set free at Singjamei Parking at around 8 pm on New Year's day. The JAC formed in connection with the abduction has consequently dissolved the body and cancelled all its agitation programme. Interacting with mediapersons at his Chingamathak Manipur College Road residence on Wednesday afternoon in the presence of family members, local elders and functionaries of the JAC, Indrajit disclosed that he was asked to get into a vehicle by the unidentified persons who were reportedly waiting for him close to his office gate. Pipe laying to be over by mid-Jan: CM Imphal, Dec 31: The ongoing pipe-laying work on major roads of Imphal city, being taken up as part of the Imphal sewerage project, will be completed by the middle of next month, chief minister O Ibobi Singh said on Monday. The CM made the statement while taking a tour around the Imphal municipal areas on Monday morning to inspect work being undertaken at various places as part of the sewerage project. The chief minister also stated that restrictions on construction of private buildings higher than three stories within the Imphal municipal area will be strictly prohibited, and has warned owners of buildings violating this norm to tear down the excess stories at the earliest. Manipuri student dies in Delhi: A Manipuri student doing his degree course in Delhi University identified as Mesak Sinate (22) s/o Damhau Sinate of Reng-kai, Churachandpur died after falling down from the second floor of a building at Lajpat Nagar, Delhi in the evening of December 25. Five militants nabbed: Five militants, belonging to three separate organizations, were nabbed during the past 24 hours in three different incidents in Manipur. Police said one militant was apprehended by Manipur Police and 39 Assam Rifles (AR) troops and Rs 70,000 was recovered from his possession. Three bridges see light of the day: Imphal, Dec 24: After long years of waiting, three bridges constructed by the Public Works Department (PWD) -- Keishamthong bridge, Singjamei bridge and Heirangoithong bridge were finally inaugurated and dedicated to the people on Monday. However, Joint Action Committee on Singjamei Bridge Construction has taken strong exception to the inauguration of the bridge even before construction of the retaining wall and black-topping of the approach roads and contended that it is in violation of the agreement signed with the Chief Engineer of PWD. Works Minister K Ranjit inaugurated the bridges one after another. Engineer shot at by gunmen: Imphal, Dec 21: An executive engineer of the state IFCD Soubam Dhanabir, 52, was shot at both legs by unidentified gunmen at his house at Thangmeiband Sinam Leikai on Friday morning at around 7.30 am. The victim was evacuated to Shija Hospital where he is reported to be out of danger. According to Dhanabir, an unidentified youth walked into his living room without a word and shot him twice in both thighs. The youth fled the spot immediately afterwards along with another youth who was waiting at his gate on a motorcycle. Dhanabir was operated on at Shija Hospital and both bullets removed. Hospital sources said he was out of danger. Police sources believe the shooting to be the handiwork of the KCP (MC) group.
