Security forces strike it rich:

Imphal, Feb 5: Security forces have arrested five activists, including three PREPAK cadres and two PULF men in the last 48 hours.

According to a statement of the SP (IW) Clay Khongsai a commando team acted swiftly upon receiving information of unknown miscreants attacking the Keishamthong Moirangningthou Leirak residence of Executive Engineer of Education (S) Department's Engineering Cell Yumnam Deben Singh at around 8.20 pm on Monday.

While the commandos arrested one Koijam Warjit Singh (s/o) (L) K Yaima of Thongju Part-I Pheija Leitong from the incident site, three others managed to evade arrest.

Describing Warjit as active member of the PREPAK, the SP said that one mobile phone (Nokia 6681) handset bearing No 9436871856 and paper chit having mobile phone No 9856907147 of Mukhesh (PREPAK) from was impounded from him.

The mobile phone contained two sound clippings of a telephonic conversation between Warjit and one Khuman of PREPAK with the latter instructing Warjit to target offices of the Education (S), SCERT, COHSEM, BOSEM and Manipur University, the SP said.

On Warjit's disclosure identities of the three involved in the firing at the EE's residence have been established as Bramacharimayum Tombi alias Noren Sharma (31) s/o (L) B Biren Sharma of Wangkhei Angom Leikai rifleman of 1st IRB and PREPAK sympathiser, Athokpam Lopen s/o A Gourashyam of Kongba Kshetri Leikai and another sympathiser Md Salim of Hatta Golapati.

On further follow-up action, B Tombi had been arrested from Singjamei Super Market at around 2.30 pm on Tuesday along with recovery of one 9 mm (petro Beratta) pistol, one magazine and two live rounds besides nabbing A Lopen from Singjamei Parking half an hour later.

As per Tombi's disclosure Deben's residence was targeted to intimidate the EE and obtain work order under the Special Plan Assistance of the Education (S) Department, the SP added.

Clay Khongsai also informed of the district's police commandos arresting one PREPAK (GS) activist identified as Thiyam Shyamkeshore alias Dong (40) s/o (L) Th Gundhar of Uripok Huidrom Leikai.

Shyamkeshore was held at around 10.05 am on Tuesday from near Kasturi bridge of Thangal Bazar, the SP said while conveying of Shyamkeshore's disclosure of joining armed group in March 1984 through one (L) Deven of Kangabam Leikai.

Shyamkeshore was working under the command of one Joy Singh of Samurou, the SP added.

Troops of the 32 Assam Rifles apprehended two cadres of PULF (Azad) group in the course of a specific search operation launched at Lilong Turen Ahanbi area on Monday.

On disclosure of a cadre held during the operation, similar exercise was conducted at Lilong Mayai Leikai that led to the arrest of the second PULF cadre, said a statement issued by PRO IGAR (S).

The two have been identified as Md Rajak Khan (27) s/o Jalaludin of Leihaokhong and Md Nazurddin (25) s/o Karumuddin of Kwakta in Churachandpur district, the PRO also listed one 9 mm pistol and three live rounds as items recovered from the duo.
