UNIDEP leader expects more for hill students:

The government has to do much more to meet the infrastructural and other needs of the educational institutions in the hill areas if the students of the hill communities are to be adequately equipped to meet the challenges of the modern age, according to Yangsosang Koireng, advisor, Campaign for Unity Development and Peace in Manipur.

Koireng was speaking at the closing function of a month long coaching camp organised by the Campaign-UNIDEP in association with the Tangkhul Aze Katamnao Long (Southern Tangkhul Students Union) at the STNBA High School, in Irong village in Senapati district on Sunday.

Yangsosang Koireng pointed out that students of the hill communities, particularly those living in the remoter areas faced huge hardships because of the lack of proper educational facilities.

Because of the absence of properly equipped schools and adequate number of teachers, even if they have the desire for pursuing studies, they are being left far behind by their valley brethren. As a result, they face serious disadvantages in the competitive modern age, he said.

He said the Campaign-UNIDEP had helped organised the coaching camp for the sake of the deprived students of the hill communities.
