Drinker’s Death

Mob torches hooch joint:

Imphal, Dec 28: Irate over the death of a man at a local drinking joint, villagers of Awang Leikinthabi under Sekmai police station torched the hooch shop late on Thursday night, a police report said on Friday.

Police have arrested the liquor vendor after registering a case at the Sekmai police station.

Reports said that 43-year old Kshetrimayum Rajen alias Dhojo son of late Bheigo of Awang Leikinthabi collapsed while he was consuming locally brewed liquor at the hooch joint run by one Khangenbam Kumar, 44, son of Kh Ibohal last night around 8 pm. Rajen apparently failed to return to normalcy and died later.

A friend of Rajen`s named Haobam Iboyaima, 43, son of late Mohori who was with him at the drinking joint reportedly left the spot quietly after Rajen collapsed, and the family got to know of his death only after the hooch shop owner Kumar delivered his lifeless body at his home at around 9.40 pm.

Outraged over the dead of Rajen villagers turned out armed with deadly weapons and burnt down the drinking joint at around midnight last night.

Later on receiving a complaint from the family of the deceased, the Sekmai police rounded up the hooch shop owner, Kumar from his house and started investigation into the circumstances leading to the death, reports added.

Police also retrieved the dead body and deposited it at RIMS morgue for post mortem.
