Fitting homage paid to 'Imas':
Imphal, Dec 12: Like every years, people of Manipur on Wednesday paid homage and tribute to all the brave ‘Imas’, both known and unknown who fought against the then British colonial rule, monopoly trade interest and feudalism for the cause of justice on the occasion of the 68th Nupi Lan Ningsing Thouram (Nupi Lan memorial observance) which was observed all over the State.
Apart from the commemorative function organised by the State Government at Nupi Lan Memorial complex here, Nupi Lan memorial observance was also held under the aegis of various social organisations in different parts of the State.
Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh and Education Minister L Jayantakumar who attended the commemorative function held at Nupi Lan Memorial complex as chief guest and president respectively led the participating Ministers, MLAs, top police ad civil officials and the people in offering floral tributes to memorial statue of Nupi Lan.
After the formal inauguration of the function along with opening song presented by the artistes of Bal Mukundo Dev Government Music College, Imphal, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh who spoke on the two incidents of Nupi Lan of 1904 and 1939 said the Manipuri women still they have shown in the two historical events.
Manipuri womenfolk continue to take the lead in taking up various important issues of the State apart from their pivotal role in supplementing the income of the families and fighting against social evils, the Chief Minister said. Appreciating the role of the women in the society, he also appealed to them for contributing their mite in restoration of peace and normalcy in the State.
In his presidential address, Minister Jayantakumar described December 12 as the day of awakening and giving courage to the women of Manipur. He also maintained that the Manipuri womenfolk can only resolve the prevailing social turmoil and bring about normalcy in the state.
As part of the observance, artistes of Nupi Lan Memorial Association and Nupi Lan and Khongjom War Memorial Society jointly enacted a drama based on the incidents of Nupi Lan.
