Third time lucky NISA lift maiden CC Meet Trophy

Imphal, Dec 9: It proved third time lucky for North Imphal Sporting Association (NISA) as they downed a spirited All Moirang Football Association (AMOFA) 2-0 in the final of the 51st CC Meet at the Khuman Lampak Main Stadium on Sunday to lift the coveted CC Meet 2007 trophy.

The team from Thangmeiband had earlier reached the final of the CC Meet tournament in 1969 and then again in 1994. NISA were however beaten to the coveted trophy in the earlier final appearances.

For the Moirang side, this was their first entry to the final of the tournament.

Though the match did not really rise to any great heights, thanks in no small part to the extremely uneven playing ground, that did not deter the record turn out, estimated to be about 15,000 plus.

Amid the cheers and of course jeers from fans and supporters of the two sides, the match kicked off a 1.15 pm.

It was a cacophony of noise, alright, with the fans of either side resorting to bursting of crackers and beating of the cymbals.

The hold that football has over the people of Manipur was clearly demonstrated today, especially by the supporters of AMOFA, who came in buses, private four wheelers, hired three wheelers, two wheelers, from Moirang to cheer their team.

For NISA too, there was no lacking in support from the fans and while the final match was well organised, the traffic could have been better managed.

The traffic chaos, however, did not take the sheen off the occasion.

Inter-State buses suspend service: Imphal, May 4: Following the All Manipur Inter-State Bus Services Association (AMISBSA)'s decision to suspend buses services indefinitely due to 'heavy' monetary demands from various elements, all buses plying along the National Highways have suspended service from Sunday. The association has been compelled to take the decision owing to various elements, undergrounds and overgrounds demanding heavy amount of money from the transporters, a spokesman of the association told media persons on Sunday evening. Murder in Mumbai!

Manipuri girl found dead Imphal/Mumbai, July 15 : A 27-year-old Manipuri girl working as a customer relationship manager in a Mumbai five star hotel was found dead in her hostel at Marol in Andheri shortly after midnight on Friday. Ch. Alena’s body was found hanging by a dupatta from the balcony of the hostel she shared with three other girls, authorities at Hotel Leela Kempinski said. But injury marks in her private parts have raised suspicions that she may have been sexually assaulted before being strangulated.
