1st Manipur Ranking Tennis Tournament
Shaolin, Yaiphabi emerge champions:
Imphal: Ch Shaolin won the men’s and Y Yaiphabi the women’s titles in the 1st Manipur Ranking Tennis Tournament 2007 organised by Manipur Tennis Association sponsored by Manipur Police Housing Corporation held at Lamphelpat Officers Club tennis court on Sunday.
In the women’s final, two top women players of the state Y. Yaiphabi and S Sonia clashed for the title. Y Yaiphabi defeated S Sonia 2-0.
The first set was evenly contested with Yaiphabi winning 7-5. But in the second set it was Yaiphabi all the way and demolished Sonia 6-0.
In the mens’ singles open final match, Ch Shaolin beat N Premjit 6-3, 6-1.
The mens single open winner Shaolin was presented a momento and cash prize of Rs. 40,000 while the runners-up N Premjit recielved Rs. 20,000 with a momento.
The women single open winner Yaiphabi received a cash prize of Rs. 30,000 and a trophy while the runners-up Sonia received a trophy with cash of Rs.15,000.
The organising committee also presented a special prize to Kangpokpi Tennis Association.
