Delimitation of Constituencies Issue

Central CPI leaders extend support to Manipur demand:

Imphal, Dec 9: Central leaders of the CPI have assured support to the campaign for delinking of Manipur from the delimitation process in a meeting with the all parties` delegation from the state on Sunday at New Delhi.

The delegation of all political parties are campaigning for the exemption of Manipur along with other states of the northeast like Assam, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh, which have cases pending on the matter of the 2001 census report, from the purview of the delimitation commission. They are urging for an ordinance at an early date in this regard or otherwise maintenance of the "status quo" in respect of Manipur.

The delegation of the political parties of Manipur led by state chief minister O Ibobi Singh met the CPI leaders AB Bardhan and D Raja at Ajay Bhavan, CPI office at 11.30 am today. They also met CPI (M) leaders like Prakash Karat, national general secretary after the meeting with the CPI leaders, a statement of the NCP general secretary K Sharatkumar on behalf of the all political parties team from Manipur said.

Inter-State buses suspend service: Imphal, May 4: Following the All Manipur Inter-State Bus Services Association (AMISBSA)'s decision to suspend buses services indefinitely due to 'heavy' monetary demands from various elements, all buses plying along the National Highways have suspended service from Sunday. The association has been compelled to take the decision owing to various elements, undergrounds and overgrounds demanding heavy amount of money from the transporters, a spokesman of the association told media persons on Sunday evening. The spokesman said transporters, mainly passenger buses, are facing many problems due to the heavy imposition of monetary demands and 'taxes' by different underground groups operating in both hills and valley districts. Murder in Mumbai!

Manipuri girl found dead Imphal/Mumbai, July 15 : A 27-year-old Manipuri girl working as a customer relationship manager in a Mumbai five star hotel was found dead in her hostel at Marol in Andheri shortly after midnight on Friday. Ch. Alena’s body was found hanging by a dupatta from the balcony of the hostel she shared with three other girls, authorities at Hotel Leela Kempinski said. But injury marks in her private parts have raised suspicions that she may have been sexually assaulted before being strangulated.
