Hoarding removal:
The Public Works Department, Government of Manipur, has announced that the hoardings and display boards erected along the outer moat of Kangla Fort adjacent to NH-39 between Raj Bhavan traffic island to Chief Minister's traffic island would be removed on January 10.
Executive Engineer of National Highways Division No.II, PWD informed that the drive would be started from 8 am of January 10.All the owners have been asked to remove the sign boards and the hoardings on or before January 9.
PREPAK man held:
Imphal East Police Commandos have apprehended on PREPAK activist during a cordon and search operation conducted based on specific information at Khongnang Pheidekpi in the wee hours on Friday.
Identifying the arrested PREPAK activist as Thongam Poireiton alias Sunil Singh (27) s/o Th Ibomcha Singh of Kakwa Khongnang Pheidekpi Leikai, SP of Imphal East District L Kailun said that on spot verification, Poireiton disclosed that he joined PREPAK in 2002 through on Bar alias Ibohal of Khongnang Pheidekpi.
AMADA pulls up bootleggers:
Activists of AMADA Lilong Arapti unit apprehended four persons on January 1 and seized 92 litres of illicit liquor which had been destroyed on January 2 evening at Lilong Arapti Thongkhong area, said the anti-drug/alcohol campaigners.
The four individuals, who had been subsequently handed over to their respective family members/elders are identified as konsam ibosana (28) s/o (L) K Achou of arapti Mamang Leikai, Konthoujam Nabakeshore (29) s/o (L) Sanahongba of Arapti Mayai Leikai, Naorem Sunil (42) s/o N Tomba of Arapti Mayai Leikai and Wahengbam Gondri (29) s/o W Yaima of Arapti Mamang leikai.
The AMADA also accused one Konthoujam Badal Singh (31) s/o K Kondum of Arapti Mayai Leikai of intimidating volunteers of the AMADA unit when they (volunteers) went to raid the house of two time offender K Nabakeshore.
Moreover, two other individuals named as Wahengbam Dharamsing (32) s/o W Irabot of Arapti Mamang Leikai and Wahengbam Dolen (35) s/o W Bira of arapti Mamang Leikai are also alleged to have used the armed KYKL's name to exert pressure upon AMADA activists for release of Wahengbam Gandhi, who was earlier apprehended while transporting alcohol on a scooter (MN1B/5034).
Entry ban in Imphal bazaar area:
The restriction imposed on entry of vehicles (4 and 3 wheelers including rickshaws) inside the Bazar area of Imphal has been extended for a period of another one month with effect from Friday.
Issuing an order in this regard, Director of Transport Norbert Disinang said that extension of the restriction on entry of vehicles is necessitated in view of incompletion of laying of pipes for the Imphal Sewerage Project along the important/ congested roads of Imphal City and as per resolution No.1 (a) (b) of the Traffic Regulation & Parking Committee (TRPC) meeting held on January 2 at 4 pm under the chairmanship of Minister of Transport.
The Transport Director further informed that re-allotment/re-allocation of Jeep Taxi and Autorickshaw parking with dedicated entry and exit points inside the periphery of Bazar areas is being issued separately as per resolution No.I (c) of the January 2TRPC meeting.
Amity stressed on New Year:
New Year's Day was celebrated together by the people of Moreh town belonging to different communities at Moreh Veterinary office ground.
The highlights of the celebration were cultural and musical programmes.
The celebration jointly organised by the All Manipur Ethnical Socio-Cultural Organisation (AMESCO) and the Nupi Khunai Chaokhat Lamjing Lup (NKCLL) Moreh was attended by Meitei Council Moreh president L Imobi, Hill Tribal Council Moreh president Yangman Haokip, SDC Moreh Ph Ibohal, Meitei Muslim Council Moreh president Nahamacha, AMESCO president LS Guite and NKCLL president Tathotlei as presidium members.
IMC asked to survey high rise buildings:
Following the announcement made by Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh to demolish high-rise buildings that have come up in Khwairamband Bazar area in violation of the laid down rules and regulations, MAHUD has entrusted Imphal Municipal Council to conduct a survey of the high rise buildings and to submit a report of the same.
The survey is to be conducted over a period of one month along with the support of the police.
An official source said that an order has been issued by MAHUD Secretary PK Singh for conducting the survey by the IMC to find out whether the high-rise buildings in Khwairamband Bazar area had been constructed with the permission of the Government or not.
IMC would be conducting the survey along with the assistance of the police for over a period of one month.
During the course of the survey every household in the Bazar area would be visited to find out how the buildings which are more than three-storey are being utilised, whether for residential or commercial purpose, the official disclosed.
The proposed survey would also find out whether the permission of the Government had been sought before construction of the highrise buildings in the Bazar area, the official said, adding that necessary action would be taken up by the Government after receiving the report of the survey from the IMC.
