Three suspected UGs shot by AR:
Troops of the 18 Assam Rifles have killed at least three suspected militants in an encounter early Saturday morning in the Kuljang area of Chandel district, official sources have said.
A statement issued by the PRO, HQ, IGAR (South) said columns of the 18 AR had launched a massive operation in the thick jungles of the Kuljang area last night based on specific intelligence, and early this morning at approximately 5:40 am, troops established contact with the UGs.
The area was surrounded by the troops and the UGs fired at, which continued till 6:10 am. In a subsequent search of the area, the bodies of three unidentified UGs were recovered.
Two automatic weapons, including a US made carbine and a 9 mm Sten carbine were recovered from the spot.
The bodies along with the recovered arms were handed over to Tengnoupal police station today, the statement said.

One shot at the leg:
A man identified as Thounoujam Dhananjoy, son of Th Budhi of Khonjom Patpal was shot at and injured at the leg by gunmen suspected to be militants on Saturday at Sekmaijin under Mayang Imphal police station.
The injured man has been taken to RIMS hospital, a report said.
Police-UG gunfight leaves one hurt:
A heavy exchange of fire took place between Imphal east district police commandos and suspected cadres of the KNA at the Thamnapokpi Sumilok hill range on Saturday afternoon, resulting in injury of a civilian by a stray bullet.
Reports said the police team came under attack near Mohn village, some distance from Thamnapokpi, this afternoon while investigating reports that armed militants were harassing local residents since the last two or three days.
According to sources, owing to harassment by the militants, villagers of Mohn and Sanasabi Kuki villagers had been fleeing their homes during the past couple of days.
The sources said that as the strong police team, in 11 vehicles, reached Mohn Kuki village, they were fired upon by the suspected UGs from the nearby hill side, resulting in a heavy exchange of fire that lasted for about one hour
In the incident, the OC, Imphal east police commando had a narrow escape, as a bullet fired from what is believed to be a sniper rifle hit the bulletproof windshield on the side the OC was sitting in. According to the OC, the bullet shattered the windshield, but did not pass through, being trapped in the glass.
With additional reinforcements of police being brought in, the militants escaped by crossing the Sanasabi village and Sunulok with the police team in hot pursuit.
There were apparently no casualties on either side in the exchange of fire.

BSF patrol attacked:
Unidentified UGs attacked a patrol party of the 88th Bn BSF, E Coy close to the company post located at Nongpok Sekmai under Yairipok police station on Friday night, resulting in a brief exchange of fire.
As per reports, there was no casualty on the side of the security forces, while the BSF is claiming that at least two of the attackers were wounded in retaliatory fire.
According to official sources, the unidentified UGs attacked the BSF party with RPGs and lethode shells, followed up with small arms fire at around 8 pm last night.
BSF personnel also retaliated leading to a short exchange of fire for about five minutes.
A bulletproof vehicle of the BSF parked inside the camp was damaged in the incident.

One civilian hurt in shoot-out:
A civilian was caught in a cross-fire between Imphal East commandos and UG cadres at Simol and Samusang area under Imphal East district on Saturday afternoon.
The injured civilian identified as Yumkhaibam Ingocha s/o Modhu of Yaingangpokpi Awang Leikai is being treated at RIMS.
A bullet which hit him in the left shoulder is now lodged in the chest.
According to sources, a police team led by SDPO Imphal East and commando OC rushed to Simol village on receiving information about presence of some UG cadres there.
As the police team approached Simol village which is located about 7/8 km north of Lamlai police station, UG cadres opened fire towards the commandos resulting in some minor damages to the vehicles carrying the SDPO and the commando OC.
On getting information of the shoot-out, reinforcements from Imphal East commandos and 115th Bn BSF rushed to the spot.
As the two sides exchanged fire for about an hour and half, some civilians sustained injuries.

UNLF claims victory:
The proscribed UNLF on Saturday claimed that five security personnel were killed when they were attacked by MPA cadres at S Bingjan near New Samtal in Chandel district on Saturday at about 1.10 pm.
A number of security personnel were also injured in the attack, the outfit claimed.
