New Year Gift for Churachandpur
Reservation counter, bus parking opened:
Imphal, Dec 29: Along with the inauguration of a Computerised Passenger Reservation System (CPRS) booking counter at the Churachandpur District Transport Office, a newly renovated bus parking was also opened on Saturday at Churachandpur New Bazar.
The twin inauguration functions were graced by Transport Minister L Jayantakumar as chief guest.
Speaking on the occasion, Jayantakumar said that out of CPRS booking counters approved by the Indian Railway authority in Imphal East, Thoubal, Churachandpur and Bishnupur, the CPRS booking counter in Churachandpur district was taken up on a priority basis.
Construction work of booking counter started in November 9 at the estimated cost of Rs 1.60 lakh.
For the remaining districts, construction work for CPRS booking counters will be initiated within a short time, said the Transport Minister.
Observing that the inconveniences faced by the people in coming to the lone CPRS booking counter at MSRTC complex in Imphal can be mitigated to a large extent once such reservation counters are opened in every district, Jayantakumar called upon the people of Churachandpur district to treat the newly opened reservation counter as their own property and to cooperate with the staff of the counter.
Further, the Minister informed that funds have been already earmarked for construction of an inter-state bus terminus at Thingkaphai in Churachandpur district.
The proposed bus terminus will be constructed shortly, he assured.
Moreover, development works of the road from Churachandpur district Hqs to Singhat, Singhat to Singjol and the road from Churachandpur to Sugnu will be completed within a short time, Jayantakumar said.
Taking part in the inaugural function as guest of honour, Works Minister K Ranjit said that the development work of the Churachandpur bus parking was taken up by the PWD with funding from Transport Department.
The bus parking covering an area of 2380 square kms was developed with three layers WBM before black topping it, Ranjit asserted.
In his presidential speech, PHE Minister TN Haokip appealed to the people to treat all Government institutions and public properties as their own properties and also to protect them.
Later, Transport Minister Jayantakumar made a field visit to the spot at Thingkaphai where the proposed inter-State bus terminus is to be constructed.
