Scribe assaulted:
Acting president of All Jiribam Working Journalists Union N Priyobrata was severely assaulted by one Mutum Dilip Singh, son of Babatombi Singh of Babapara, near rail crossing on the night of December 29 last.
Blaming that no action has been taken despite a complaint on the incident was lodged to the Jiribam police station, the Union has requested the All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union for necessary action.
According to a statement of the AJWJU, Jiribam, its acting president was beaten up on his way home without any reason and suffered severe injuries at left eye, face and other parts of the body.
KCP executes ex-cadre:
Deputy Commander of KCP (MTF) Capt Kesho has informed that an ex-cadre of the outfit, identified as Santosh Sharma of Tentha Khabam, has been awarded capital punishment at an adjoining place of Mayang Imphal-Uchiwa at around 8.10 pm on Monday for allegedly swindling party fund.
Capt Kesho informed that in 2006, Santosh was punished for his involvement in swindling Rs 6 lakh from the party fund.
However, he was forgiven after he confessed to the crime and promised not to indulge in such activities in future.
Inspite of that, Santosh again swindled Rs 31,80,000 and remained absconding. He was pulled up from Keishampat area at Imphal on Monday, Capt Kesho said, while asking all the accomplices of Santosh to surrender along with the amount in their respective possessions.
Otherwise, they would also meet the same fate like Santosh, Capt Kesho warned.
RPF penalises zarda smuggler:
The proscribed RPF has penalised a man by shooting him on his leg for allegedly smuggling Zarda while a woman involved in the smuggling had her hair tonsured apart from setting on fire the vehicle, a Tata Sumo, in which the banned tobacco product was being transported.
The man who has been punished with a bullet on his leg has been identified as Yumnam Ibomcha (34) of Awang Sekmai Laipat s/o Irabot and the woman whose head has been tonsured as Irungbam Purnimashi (41) w/o late Pakpa of Awang Sekmai near Police Gate.
The registration number of the ill-fated Tata Sumo is MN-05A/1368. It belonged to one Langpoklakpam Shyam of Khongjom Tekcham and was driven by one Langpoklakpam Sanatomba of the same locality.
Ibomcha was found shot at on his right thigh at Irom Pukhri Mapal at around 7.20 pm on Monday. He has been reportedly admitted to RIMS Hospital for treatment.
Both Ibomcha and Purnimashi were produced before mediapersons somewhere in Ukhrul district on Monday afternoon.

Night landing at Tulihal Airport:
To identify the locations where Solar Power Obstruction Light (SPOL) are to be installed for night landing of flights at Tulihal Airport, Imphal, as well as to discuss matters related to arranging the accommodation of the security personnel, a meeting was held on Monday with Chief Secretary in the chair.
The meeting attended by Principal Secretary Power PBO Warjiri, DGP Y Joykumar and MD of Police Housing Corporation N Samananda among others has also entrusted the Police Housing Corporation to submit the estimated cost for installations of the SPOL and for setting up the accommodation of the security personnel within January 4, 2008.
The locations where SPOL would be installed include Langjing, Phunal Maring, Nongmaiching, Heibongching and Maibam Lokpa Ching.
Two dead bodies exhumed:
Two corpses found buried at a spot in between Kamu Chingjin and Khemalok about two kilometer north east of Lamlai police station have been exhumed on Monday.
The two bodies were discovered on Sunday.
As the two bodies were highly decomposed, most of the flesh were found missing. Both the corpses were found blind folded.
While one wore jean pants, the other appeared to be wrapping himself with a cloth. As the clothes have weathered badly, the exact colour of the dresses cannot be ascertained.
After the two bodies were exhumed at about 8 am today, the corpses have been deposited at RIMS morgue.
It looks like the two bodies were buried about 4/5 months back.
Year ends on violent note, two killed:
In yet another case of gun fight among UG groups, two UG cadres have been killed on Sunday night.
The shoot-out took place near Kakching Khunou bridge under Waikhong police station at about 10.30 pm on Sunday.
The two deceased are suspected to be Ningthoujam Imocha (37) s/o Birmangol Leikai and Ningthoujam Chaoba alias Thengra (37) s/o Yaima of Nongmaikhong Mayai.
As the identities of the two cannot be officially confirmed yet, the corpses have been deposited at RIMS mortuary.
