Kangleipakki Meira's foundation day:
The 27th foundation day of the Kangleipakki Meira daily was celebrated at its office premises at Keishampat Junction, Imphal on Wednesday.
The celebration was graced by founder member of All Manipur Working Journalists' Union Yumnam Ajit and secretary of Dimapur Meitei Union Binod Khaba as chief guest and president respectively.
On the occasion, the daily's chief editor Wangkhemcha Samjai presented a brief history of the daily since it was established 27 years ago.
MACS Director row resolved:
Following a judgment of the Gauhati High Court issued on Wednesday, the impasse over the post of Project Director for Manipur AIDS Control Society has been settled.
According to the judgment passed by a single bench of the Gauhati High Court, Dr Kh Pramodkumar has been reinstalled as Project Director of MACS.
Dr Pramodkumar held the post of MACS project director before he took over as State Opthalmic Officer.
In the meantime, Deputy Director TR Kom was made project director of MACS on temporary basis.
Later, the State Government issued an order thereby appointing TR Kom as project director of MACS for a period of three years.
During the period when Dr Kom was holding the office of MACS project director, the State Government issued another order on November 16 last year declaring Dr Pramodkumar as project director and TR Kom as deputy director.
Against the latest Government order, TR Kom filed a case in Court.
The final hearing of the case was held on December 18 last year.
The judgment on Wednesday dismissed the petition of TR Kom and reinstated Dr Pramodkumar to project director of MACS.
Grenades 'gifted' to Patsoi MLA:
Police bomb experts retrieved a hand-grenade 'gifted' to Patsoi AC MLA Sapam Keba by unidentified persons on the intervening night of December 31, 2007 and January 1, 2008 and exploded the same at a safe location.
According to information, the grenade was neatly packed and asked for delivery to the MLA who is currently out of station.
Expected the wrapped item to be gift, one Kalachand on unwrapping the same discovered it was a bomb.
Meanwhile, taking grim note of the act the Central Executive Committee of MLA, Patsoi AC demanded clarification from those involved at the earliest and appealed for sanity by all concerned.
The explosive device had been set off along the Langol road.
Scribes protest:
In protest against the physical assault on president of the All Jiribam Working Journalists' Union N Priyobarta by one M Dilip and his associates, journalists in the sub-division has launched pen-down strike from Wednesday.
The All Jiribam Working Journalists' Union has already set January 3 deadline for Jiribam police to book the accused and his associates.
The Union has also decided to continue with intense forms of agitation until the accused and his cohorts are punished according to law.
Bodies seek explanation on killing:
Taking strong exception to the alleged arbitrary killing of Ningthoujam Ingocha Meitei s/o late N Biramangol of Ningthoukhong Project area on December 31, Nongmaikhong Nupi Samaj Chaokhat Thourang Meira Paibi Lup has sought an explicit explanation for the killing by Thursday.
Others who have condemned and demanded a definite clarification for the killing include Nongmaikhong Awang Social Reformative Association, Universal Friendship Organisation (UFO) Sarik Konjin Branch, JAC Against the Killing of N Ingocha Meitei, Nongmaikhong and Nongmaikhong Youth Development Association.
Departmental examinations:
The Manipur Civil Services (Departmental examinations) for IAS/MCS/SDC etc will be held from January 29 to 31 .
During the same period, Departmental examinations of Manipur Police Services for IPS/MPS/SI/ASI, Sub-Registrar for Sub-Registrar of Registration Department, Manipur Cooperative Officers for Assistant Registrar, Principal and Inspectors of Cooperative Examination will also be conducted.
Other Departmental examinations scheduled during the same period include Manipur Taxation for Inspector of Taxes, Manipur Excise for Inspector and Assistant Inspector of Excise, pre-promotion test for promotion to the rank of Subedar for Jamadars of Manipur Rifles/IRB Battalions and Manipur Finance Service for Manipur Finance Service Officers.
According to a notification issued by the Manipur Public Service Commission, the concerned candidates/officers should submitted their completed application forms to MPSC Secretary on or before 3 pm of January 19 .
Assam Rifles, ZSU celebrate:
A two day festival was organised by 11 AR under Hqs IG AR (S) in coordination with Zeliangrong Students' Union, Tamenglong and ZNBC on December 29 and 30 in Tamenglong stadium.
Celebrated under theme "Welcome 2008 as year of Peace and Development", the festival was participated by more than 2000 people.
Major attractions of the event were traditional dance competition, performance by local music bands, sack race and musical chair for children, Know AIDS for No AIDS campaign and Know Your Army display and also a performance by 11 AR Jazz band.
On the other hand, 18 Assam Rifles joined the golden jubilee celebration of Sita Youth Club on December 28. Besides providing assistance in the form of tarpaulins and PA equipment, Commandant of 18 AR graced the celebration as chief guest.
One shot dead:
Chief of H Gamnom village Hemkhogin Haokip (50) was shot dead by some unidentified persons at Sugnu Makha Leikai Heining Makhong under Sugnu police station at about 9.50 on Tuesday night.
With the completion of post mortem examination, the corpse has been handed over to family members on Wednesday.
