Tribute to Bob Marley
Imphal to host annual concert:
Imphal, Jan 30: The tiny island of Jamaica may be thousands and thousands of miles away from the North East, but come February 6, Imphal, the capital city of Manipur will join with the Caribbean Island in celebrating the music and life of Bob Marley, its most legendary son.
As the 13th anniversary special 'Exodus the Bob Marley tribute' crosses borders for the very first time, taking the event from Meghalaya to Manipur, it would be held on February 6 at the Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen here at Imphal.
The gates to the musical extravaganza would be thrown open at 5 pm sharp.
The Bob Marley tribute is a musical celebration in honour of the reggae legend, Bob Marley.
Inspired by the words and music of Bob Marley, this annual event was started by Springboard Surprises way back in 1996 in Shillong.
The only musical event of its kind in the country, the Bob Marley tribute made a debut with the audience of reggae and Marley lovers from Shillong and Guwahati.
But over the years, through word of mouth and media coverage, this lively reggae event has grown drawing audiences not only from the region but also from around the country.
According to convenor of Exodus Organising Committee Momo Laishram, 'Exodus', the 13th annual Bob Marley tribute will bring together appreciative music lovers of Imphal and the funky reggae music and lively stage vibes of the Roots Reggae Band from Shilling featuring guest vocalists Daniel Boko from Itanagar, Rewben Mashangva from Ukhrul, Dymsal from Shillong, Phu Ning Ding from Karbi Anglong, Sarahlee from Shillong, Jerry Sailo from Mizoram and X Cannibals from Imphal.
It may be noted here that the Roots Reggae Bank is the only Reggae band in the country and is from the Northeast with its members hailing from all over the region.
For fans of the band as well as of Bob Marley it would be a treat on Wednesday, February 6, when the 9 members strong band take the stage with a set list of all time favourite numbers of Bob Marley on stage.
