'Leader' snubs, rebels fume:
Imphal, Jan 27: In what could be a significant gesture, Law and Legislative Affairs Minister Th Debendra who is being projected by the dissident Congress MLAs as their leader has snubbed the rebel camp.
With Debendra refusing to heed the call to come to Delhi on Sunday and instead go to Jiribam, the rebel MLAs are literally fuming.
In the back drop of the new development, the rebel MLAs have convened an emergency meeting on Monday.
Some senior leaders of the dissident group noted that the failure of Thoudam Debendra to respond to the call of the AICC to come to Delhi is tantamount to humiliating and betraying the rebel MLAs.
"He will certainly reap the outcome of his act of betrayal very soon," they asserted.
The alleged act of Debendra to concede to the reported enticement of the Chief Minister with the portfolio of Finance Minister and various other benefits amount to cheating the people of Manipur, the rebel MLAs fumed.
The Law Minister has now become a party pushing Manipur to a deeper abyss, they alleged.
During all these days of the three month old political tussle within the CLP, Th Debendra was always a confidante of the dissident group.
Moreover, during meetings with AICC observers at Imphal and Delhi, Th Debendra not only endorsed the cause of the rebel MLAs but also put forth that he has been elected leader of the dissident group, they recalled.
Considering all these events and circumstances, Th Debendra doing a U turn for some personal benefits is most unfortunate, the senior leaders denounced.
Today's meeting of the rebel MLAs will make a detailed study on whether they should continue projecting Debendra as their leader or they should nominate a new leader or they should accept any MLA appointed by the AICC as the Chief Minister of Manipur.
Whether the budget session scheduled to begin from February 1 should figure in the meeting will also be looked into, they conveyed.
In spite of the set back, the ongoing political rebellion will not be suspended until and unless Okram Ibobi is removed from the post of Chief Minister, the dissident leaders reiterated.
