Bharat Excellence Award

State ministers, MLAs honoured:

New Delhi, Apr 26: Manipur Commerce and Industries Minister Yumkham Erabot, Chief Whip and Vice President of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee Tongbram Mangibabu, MLA and Chairman of MANITRON Dr Kh Ratankumar Singh, MLA K. Meghachandra Singh and MLA Awangbow Newmei from Manipur were among those personalities who were honoured with Bharat Excellence Award 2008 on Saturday at Indian International Centre here.

The Friendship Forum of India organized the yearly event. The award carried a gold medal and a certificate.

The award was given to them for their outstanding extraordinary achievement in their chosen field of activity and services rendered to promote greater friendship and India International cooperation.

About 100 personalities from all over the country working in different fields like politics, medical, agriculture, art and culture etc were honoured today.

On the occasion, the Minister and the four MLAs were also among those honoured with 'North Eastern Golden Personalities' which carried a gold medal and a certificate.

A few personalities were awarded the title ?'Gem of India'.

Minister Yumkham Erabot and MLA Tongbram Mangibabu from Manipur were the recipients of 'Gem of India' award.

A national seminar on 'Growth and National Unity' was also conducted on the occasion.

During the deliberations of the seminar, Commerce and Industries Minister Yumkham Erabot was graced at the dais as one of the chair persons.

Inter-State buses suspend service: Imphal, May 4: Following the All Manipur Inter-State Bus Services Association (AMISBSA)'s decision to suspend buses services indefinitely due to 'heavy' monetary demands from various elements, all buses plying along the National Highways have suspended service from Sunday. The association has been compelled to take the decision owing to various elements, undergrounds and overgrounds demanding heavy amount of money from the transporters, a spokesman of the association told media persons on Sunday evening. The spokesman said transporters, mainly passenger buses, are facing many problems due to the heavy imposition of monetary demands and 'taxes' by different underground groups operating in both hills and valley districts. Murder in Mumbai!

Manipuri girl found dead Imphal/Mumbai, July 15 : A 27-year-old Manipuri girl working as a customer relationship manager in a Mumbai five star hotel was found dead in her hostel at Marol in Andheri shortly after midnight on Friday. Ch. Alena’s body was found hanging by a dupatta from the balcony of the hostel she shared with three other girls, authorities at Hotel Leela Kempinski said. But injury marks in her private parts have raised suspicions that she may have been sexually assaulted before being strangulated. Though family members performed the last rites at Kongpal Kshetri Leikai of Imphal East this afternoon, they demanded a thorough probe by the Mumbai police into the circumstances leading to her death.
