Oust Ibobi Campaign
'Rebels' ready to give another push, Gaikhangam in Delhi:
Imphal, Jan 7: The pressure being exerted by the rebel MLAs camping in New Delhi in pursuance of their demand for replacement of O Ibobi Singh as the chief minister of the state is likely to intensify as the rebels have started gathering at the national capital again.
MPCC chief Gaikhangam reached the national capital on Sunday and two ministers, Y Erabot and DD Thaisii, are likely to join the camp within a few days, a source from the rebel camp said on Monday.
A group of Congress legislators from the state, mention may be made, are demanding ouster of O Ibobi Singh from chief ministerial post and have been camping in New Delhi since November first week to press for their demands.
They returned together for a brief period to Imphal and camped in here during the visit of the Union minister of state attached to the PMO during his visit to the state in the early part of December last year. Since then they have regrouped at the national capital.
Rebel MLAs and political analysts in the state had believed the visit of the minister, Prithvi Raj Chauhan was to take stock of the internal crisis in the state Congress, but officially he had arrived in the state capital to review the progress of development works under the state reconstruction plan, a package of the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh for the state.
It is also true that Chauhan during his visit conducted hearing of the Congress MLAs on the performances of the SPF government and asked for the reason behind their demand for change in leadership.
The rebel MLAs have also been under the impression that the Congress high command would give a ruling in their favour after the Gujarat Assembly elections which concluded recently.
Since then the rebel MLAs have remained silent as they could not bring up their demand to the high command in face of the resounding defeat of the Congress in the Gujarat polls.
Another reason was the political crisis in Nagaland which culminated in the imposition of President’s Rule last week.
Now, the rebels feel the Manipur matter can be taken up again with the Central leaders.
Though an MLA at the rebel camp did not directly say so, all the same he hinted that they would put up their demand once again before the high command.
The MLA while informing that Gaikhangam had arrived in the national capital, said that two ministers, FCS minister Y Erabot and tribal development minister DD Thaisii, were also likely to arrive soon in the next few days to join the rebel camp.
When contacted, a rebel MLA in the camp expressed confidence that the matter would be taken up by the Congress Working Committee in the next few days.
