UBI strike off:
The ceasework strike launched by the employees of all branches of the United Bank of India since January 8 following a heavy monetary demand from one militant outfit has been called off with immediate effect.
Informing this on Friday, the co-convenor of the United Forum of Bank Unions said that the ceasework programme earlier scheduled to be held on January 14 has also been called off.
The decision to withdraw the cease work stir was taken after the outfit concerned conveyed that they have withdrawn the monetary demand, said the statement and added that branches of the United Bank of India will start normal transactions from Saturday.
The United Forum of Bank Unions, on behalf of all the working employees of the Bank, also expressed its regret to the customers and general public for the closure of UBI branches.
It also acknowledged the support extended by the fraternal trade unions of other banks, leading civil organisations, media and news agencies.
Inspection drive of schools by KSO:
Taking serious note of the deteriorating law and order situation and the high rate of school drop-outs in Churachandpur district, the KSO Churachandpur district would be undertaking an inspection drive of schools located in the district, informed a KSO release.
The student body observed that while enrolment in Government schools has been dramatically reduced, enrolment in private schools has shot up tremendously which only reflects the deplorable status of the education system being followed in the State.
Systematisation of corrupt practices in educational institutions extensively would cost an irreparable damage to the society if not checked without any further delay, noted the KSO.
All the teaching and non-teaching staff belonging to 25 High Schools and 39 JB Schools under the ZEO Churachandpur would be covered during the proposed inspection drive, it said while appealing to all staff concerned to cooperate with the inspection team and to join their respective place of postings as per ZEO's directives.
Dr Sidhu opens computer centre at Churachandpur school:
Completing the dream of former President of India Dr Abdul Kalam to the children of a school in Churachandpur district, Governor Dr SS Sidhu on Friday inaugurated a computer centre and science laboratory at Bunglon High School in Churachandpur district, thus rolling into motion, computer revolution in the southern hills of Manipur.
The computer centre and the laboratory were gifted to the school by the former president Dr Kalam when he made a stopover in the school campus way back in 2006. Governor Sidhu interacted with the students of the school.
Campaign to promote work culture:
To promote work culture among the people of Manipur and ensure full development in agriculture, which an important sector of the State's economy, All Manipur Integrated Farmers' Organisation is all set to launch a campaign in every localities and villages of the state.
Announcing his during a press conference at its Canchipur office on Friday, president of All Manipur Integrated Farmers' Organisation L Inao Singh observed that promotion of a work culture among the people and development of agriculture though application of the latest technologies would ensure proper utilisation of the manpower and available resources apart from augmenting the income of the state.
He informed that during the course of the campaign to be launched along with the support of the various experts in the related field, people would be enlightened on various important issues related reclamation and efficient utilisation of the available cultivable land along with adoption of the latest technology.
Expressing serious concern over leaving the paddy field idle after harvesting of the crops till the next cultivation season, he noted that ensuring irrigational facilities would help in keep the field evergreen and productive all the year round.
In such a situation, farmers can successfully take up double cropping to increase the produce of the State and bring about self sufficiency and reliant economy instead of depending on other neighbouring States, Inao observed.
AI's murder: JAC inks truce with Govt:
The Peoples' Protection and Development Committee (PPDC), Wangoi formed after the killing of W Sanatomba Singh, AI, ZEO Wangoi on January 9 has agreed to take back the mortal remains of the late officer after a five point Memorandum of Understanding was signed with the Government on Friday.
The MoU was signed during a meeting with the CM-in-charge Th Debendra at Imphal.
The agreement included immediate action to be taken up by the police to arrest the culprits, to sympathetically consider the demand to appoint the wife of the deceased under the die-in-harness scheme, ex-gratia of Rs 1 lakh to the bereaved family before the Shraddha ceremony of the deceased, Government to consider the demand of the JAC to continue payment of the salary of the deceased till the time of his retirement.
UNLF dismisses AR claim:
The proscribed UNLF has dismissed the claim of success made by the IG AR (S) in Operation Somtal II as a fabricated and misleading propaganda.
A statement issued by the outfit's Senior Publicity Officer Ksh Yoiheiba while detailing the sequence of events of Operation Samtal II launched since November 18 last year, asserted that top AR/Army officers in the initial stage of the operation boasted that they would take control of Somtal and Dingpi areas by December 15 last.
But they (security forces) have failed miserably to achieve their goal till date.
Yet Yoiheiba acknowledged the AR claim that security forces have advanced up to New Somtal on January 7 and reached Molcham on January 9.However, the security forces are not divulging the number of deaths and casualties on their part since Operational Samtal II was launched.

AR men feted at investiture ceremony:
An investiture ceremony of AR personnel who were awarded the Director General Assam Rifles Commendation cards was held at headquarters 9 Sector AR at Keithelmanbi on Friday.
During the ceremony presided by IG AR (South) Maj Gen BK Chengapa, 37 AR personnel including officers were conferred discs/medals and commendation cards.
Speaking at the occasion, BK Chengapa said that the Assam Rifles have been making all efforts to maintain peace in the North Eastern States including Manipur.
In the coming years too, the Assam Rifles will strive hard to uphold its epithets of "Friends of the Hill People" and "Custodian of the North East", he assured.
