RPF penalises mithamana sellers:

The proscribed outfit RPF has tonsured two women as punishment for defying the ban on selling Mithamana, even as another woman Mithamana seller surrendered to the outfit.

The two women are identified as Nongmeikapam Lalita (25) d/o late Indrajit and Irengbam Ongbi Pramo (35) w/o Muhindro while the other who surrendered as Irengbam Ongbi Lily (35) w/o Ningthemjao.

All three of them are residents of Irengbam Makha Leikai and operate Pan Dukan at Irengbam Kangjeibung Parking.

Before meting out the punishment, they were produced before mediapersons somewhere in Churachandpur district on Sunday.

A spokesperson of the department of communication and publicity of the outfit informed that all three of them would be handed over to their respective family members after giving the lenient punishment.

However, their Pan Dukan should remain close for two months.

Rs 100 lakh released for Manipur SSA:

Union Ministry of Human Resource Development so far released a sum of Rs 100 lakh to Manipur till the end of December 2007 out of the approved outlay of Rs. 4908.86 lakh earmarked for Manipur during the current year 2007-08 under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) programme.

Sources from the Ministry said that in the Eleventh Plan, the SSA has a funding pattern between Centre and States in the ratio of 65:25 for the first two years of the Eleventh Five Year Plan i.e. 2007-08 and 2008-09; 60:40 for the third year i.e. 2009-10; 55: 45 for the fourth year i.e. 2010-11 and 50:50 thereafter i.e. from 2011-12 onwards.

Chief sets record straight on UKLF charges:

Tension is reported to be running high among the different communities settling in Sajik Tampak area of Chandel district following the alleged undue interference of the armed outfit United Kuki Liberation Front (UKLF) which support one particular community in connection with land dispute.

The shimmering situation has come out after the armed outfit allegedly forced Kuki Chiefs' Association of Chandel district to issue an order to the effect of appointing chief of Molphei village Nengkhojang Haokip as the new chief of Khailet Khulet village and the announcement of the same through the media.

Addressing a press conference in this connection at Manipur Press Club at Imphal on Monday, chief of Khailet Khulet Liankhankhu Kukang informed that case related to the dispute over the boundary of his and Nemgkhojang's village has been pending in the Law Court for the last 10 years.

Inspite of that on November 6 last year, UKLF summoned him to come to Nazareth village located in Sugnu area for talks and settlement of the issue.

Works Minister inspects Chandel roads:

Works Minister K Ranjit visited Chandel district on January 5 and 6 on a two day inspection tour of the roads and communication infrastructure of the district.

During his inspection tour K Ranjit was accompanied by MLA Thangkholun Haokip and high ranking officials of the PWD.

On the first day, the Works Minister made field inspection of the road from Tengnoupal to Chakpikarong via Joupi and Monpi.

On January 6, the team led by K Ranjit went to Sajik Tampak to assess the condition of roads and bridges of the area.

Zarda dealers give in:

Of some of the individuals warned by the proscribed RPF against regular 'smuggling' of Zarda along Imphal-Moreh route, two gave in to the outfit.

The two Zarda transporters identified as Khwairakpam Ibo (34) of Sekmai Awang Leikai and Laimayum Manaobi alias Inaobi (34) of Sekmai Bazar (near Forest Gate) were paraded before media persons at a location in Imphal East district on Monday.

On their assurance that they will never involve themselves in Zarda trade in future, the two were handed over to their family members.

In a related case, a Tata Sumo was set afire a few days back.

UNLF nails impostors, warns others:

Along with rounding up three persons who tried to get contract works in connection with construction of the Regional Water Sports Complex at Takmu by misusing the name of UNLF, the central special force (CSF) of the proscribed outfit has asked three other persons who are also allegedly involved in the case to surrender within January 12.

UNLF had already announced that it would not be involved in any contract works.

The three accused persons identified as Pukhrambam Devanita alias Devan (41) of Langmeidong Mamang Leikai, Akham Joy (57) of Kwakeithel Bazar and Yumnam Rameshwar (55) of Singjamei Chongtham Leikai were paraded before mediapersons somewhere in Imphal East area on Sunday.

Speaking to mediapersons, a spokesperson of the CSF informed that the three accused misused the name of some senior officers of the UNLF in threatening a contractor from Changangei who is engaged in the construction work of the sports complex.

Apart from issuing threats through their mobile phones, Devan and Joy went to the residence of the contractor on January 4 to demand handing over the contract work to them while Rameshwar went to the house of the contractor yesterday, the spokesperson said, while informing that all three of them were rounded up on Sunday.

IUCB GM 'awarded' forced retirement:

After a thorough investigation into the shady dealings and mismanagements plaguing the Imphal Urban Co-operative Bank for the last two years, the proscribed RPF has 'given voluntary retirement' to its General Manager, Kangujam Lukhoi for manipulating his date of birth.

Parading Lukhoi before mediapersons at a place in Churachandpur district on January 5, a spokesperson of the outfit's Department of Communication and Publicity conveyed that the outfit conducted a detailed investigation to find out the fraudulent practices plaguing the bank.

In the course of the investigation, it was established that Kangujam Lukhoi's return to the Imphal Urban Cooperative Bank as general manager through fraudulent practices was largely responsible for the tense and discontented atmosphere situation in the bank, the spokesperson said.

Kangujam Lukhoi of Malom Tuliyaima paid no heed when he was summoned by the RPF in connection with the woes plaguing the IUCB.
