Associate Professor confessed to RPF:

Imphal, May 5: An associate professor of the Manipuri department, Manipur University, Rajen Toijamba has made a confession to the RPF/PLA in front of mediapersons on MOnday in connection with mark tampering in the recently held entrance test for the selection of Ph.D students in Manipur University on January 30 this year.

The spokesman of the department of communication and publicity, RPF/PLA during a press conference held somewhere in Churachandpur district this evening disclosed that the associate professor had voluntarily turned up after being summoned by the RPF in connection with mark tampering in the selection test for Ph.D students in Manipuri department of the university.

The spokesperson further mentioned that the RPF in the interest of the students and for bringing quality education at the university had put suggestions from time to time to the concerned lecturers of various subjects mainly during the time of examinations and selection tests for higher studies and their suggestions were becoming useful today. However, in the case of recent selection test for Ph.D in the university, the concerned lecturer failed to listen to the suggestions of the RPF, he said.

The RPF on investigation learnt there were certain irregularities found in the selection test for Ph.D for Manipuri department in the university and their investigation had intensified and later they found that Rajen Toijamba had tampered the marks in the already checked answer papers and also in some of the answer papers which were not checked, the spokesman added.

The spokesman further mentioned that the RPF during investigation learnt that Rajen Toijamba had been directly involved in irregular selection of Ph.D students as most of the students who had been selected for Ph.D in Manipuri department were those who were sponsored by Rajen Toijamba and two more genuine students who were kept in the waiting list were selected by the RPF after confirming their genuinity.

On the other hand, the students who passed through from the back door in Ph.D for Manipuri department would be allowed to continue to study considering their academic career, but the RPF would not permit such irregularities in the selection of higher studies in the university in future.

The RPF spokesman also drew the attention of the MUSU and its president in connection with the recent wakat meepham inside the MU campus on February 26 to protest against the interference of UGs in academic proceedings of the MU. The spokesman said the investigation by the RPF in the selection test for Ph.D was not with the intention to interfere in the academic process of the MU and it was done with an objective to maintain quality education and to prevent any irregularities and malpractices in MU, the spokesman said.
