Imphal, Dec 6: As a part of the forthnight long observation of Violence Against Women, a motor rally was taken out under the aegis of the Women Action for Development (WAD) in Imphal East district on Thursday.

Commandos gun down UG suspect:
Imphal, Dec 6: Imphal West commandos shot dead a suspected underground activist along the road of RIMS Doctors' colony at Lamphel just opposite to RIMS morgue at around 1.45 pm on Thursday.
According to a statement issued by SP of Imphal West District Clay Khongsai, acting on a credible information about some suspected PREPAK activists exhorting money from offices located in Lamphel area, commandos of Imphal West District conducted search operation at the said area at around 1.45 pm on Thursday.

Truck drivers rescued from KLA militants:
Imphal, Dec 6: Two truckers who had been detained in the custody of a Kuki militant group since December 2 were rescued safely by a strong team of the Thoubal district police commandos, from Seljang village, under Yairipok police station on Wednesday after a fierce encounter with Kuki militants.
The hijacked truck was also recovered intact at Nongpok Keithel Manbi on the bank of the Thoubal river.

HC decrees Rs 1 lakh compensation to 'shock' victim:
Imphal, Dec 6: The Gauhati High Court has asked the State Power Department to compensate Rs 1 lakh to the family of an electrocution victim within four months.
Justice T Nandakumar Singh in his Imphal Bench sitting passed the ruling on December 3 following a writ petition filed by one Radhe Devi of Heirok Part-I in Thoubal District.

NH 53 bandh called off:
Imphal, Dec 6: The indefinite bandh imposed by the Jiribam Higher Sec School along NH 53 has been called off from midnight today.
The decision to call off the bandh was taken after taking in account of the appeals made by several organisations and hardships faced by the people, particularly Christian community ahead of the Christmas.
Yet, the Students Union has warned that more intense forms of agitation will be launched sometime later until its demand for posting adequate teachers in Jiribam Higher Sec School is fulfilled.
