NE CMs to oppose move: Shillong, Apr 21: The meeting of North Eastern Council (NEC) scheduled in Agartala on May 12 will be a forum for the eight Chief Ministers of the North Eastern States to oppose the proposed abolition of DONER Ministry. This disclosure was made by Meghalaya Chief Minister Dr.Donkupar Roy during his interaction with media persons in Shillong on Monday. Dr.Donkupar Roy, who earlier told the Meghalaya Assembly that the state is against the proposed abolition of the DONER ministry said, "Meghalaya is opposed to the proposed idea of wrapping up of the ministry created for the benefits of the North Eastern region". Local councillors to begin pen down strike: Imphal, Apr 21: Displeased at getting no response despite protests since April 15 against unbearable monetary demands on them by several militant groups and the state government`s silence on the demand for devolution of power, the elected members of the municipal councils and nagar panchayats have decided to intensify their protest with a pen down strike from tomorrow. The next step will be to tender resignation from the councillorship en-masse, an open letter to the revolutionary groups active in the state, from the secretary of the All Manipur Municipal Council and Nagar Panchayat Joint Action Committee stated. Left, MPP campaign against inflation: Imphal, Apr 21: Manipur People's Party (MPP) and other political parties have joined the Left parties in the campaign against price hike. Left Parties and United National Progressive Alliance (UNPA) have been jointly launching a Nation-wide campaign against escalating prices of essential commodities from April 16.The campaign will continue till April 23 . As part of the ongoing campaign, a peoples' convention against price hike attended by leaders of various political parties was held at Manipur Press Club here today. Govt accounts for diverted police funds still not settled: Imphal, Apr 21: Documents relating to the release of Rs. 2 crores for the modernization of the police force in Manipur, which was diverted for security related expenditure during the Vth National Games held in Imphal during the year 1998-99, is yet to be furnished to the Union ministry of home affairs even after 10 years have passed, a source has said. Despite reminders from the Union ministry of home affairs for furnishing the same with the latest intimation asking for furnishing of the same before the closing of this year 2007-08, the same is pending with the Manipur government, the source further said. The report of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India for the year ending 31st March 2003, financial accounts 2002-03 as well as appropriation accounts 2002-03 for the state of Manipur had revealed the diversion of the funds by the Manipur government. ZYF, Nungba decries Govt. negligence in Tamenglong: Decrying the alleged negligence of the State Government towards development of Tamenglong district, Zeliangrong Youth Front (ZYF), Nungba Zone has urged the Government to do the needful at the earliest possible. In a memorandum submitted to Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, the youth front said that the people in this part of the State are felling a sense of negligence and discrimination as a result of the State Government's arrangement of posting in-charge officers when the district is in need of regular and competent authorities to speed up the developmental activities of the backward district. Cabinet okays Ordinance for ADC: Imphal, Apr 21: To pave the way for holding the election to the Autonomous District Councils, the State Cabinet which met this evening has decided to give the green signal to implement the Ordinance which will be henceforth known as the 'Manipur (Hill Areas) District Council (3rd Amendment) Ordinance, 2008' . As per the Ordinance the election to the District Council, will be held under the supervision of the State Election Commissioner instead of the earlier practise when it was under the Hill Commissioner. The Cabinet which met from 4.30 pm till late into the evening also discussed the autonomy and power to be given to the District Councils, said a source. On the education front, the meeting decided that the autonomy granted to the District Councils till class V will be upgraded to Class VII . Saratchandra Football: NEROCA Sangakpham and the MPSC have completed the semi finals line-up of the 4th L Saratchandra Memorial Invitation Football Tournament being played at Kongkhampat ground, Nambol. In the last match of group B, MBSU Wahengbam Leikai pipped TRAU Kwakeithel 5-3 . The second match between MPSC and NEROCA ended in 1-1 draw.
